1956 OLYMPIAN - Ads

I remember Shaw's Barbecue. It was across the 4-Lane from Barnes Mill Road and a pasture. You can see the pasture in the background. It is amazing, or sickening, how the landscape changes. Stick around a few generations and it will change again.

Did you notice the ballerina slippers and socks. So chic at the time! And those scarves!

I forgot to say I remembered Shaws had really good BBQ. On a dateless night if somebody could get their parent's car, we'd drive back and forth from Varners to Shaws just to see who was there. Seeing an ex-boyfriend with a date would cause a real crying jag.

The Big Chicken was there too, right? Then Dairy Queen and McDonalds came along whenever.

G,
I just looked it up. The Big Chicken structure was built in 1963 for Johnny Rebs.
I remember it first started off being a Zesto. I joined their birthday club. I got a free ice cream on my birthday.

probably 1 scoop :)

Karen Kandul and I were there before '63. I remember it was a drive-in food place. I'm 95% sure it was that location.

G,
There was a Miss Georgia Dairies (that doesn't sound right - so I made be corrected) there that sold ice cream and spinning wheel milk shakes, it was a drive-in. And Johnny Reb's was there for several years before they added the Big Chicken, I think they were a drive-in too.
