I took this picture of Don on the back fire exit stairs of our barracks. He is showing off his black-eye. Notice the snow. That was the reason for the black-eye.
About a few days or so before it came a big snowfall in Lakehurst, NJ. For safety reasons no one was allowed to enter or leave the base.
We spent a lot of time at the EM Club. People were getting cabin fever and short tempered. The EM Club was crowded. With the video joke box a lot of people were hopping or jerking around with the music, the Marine bunch mostly. We were making fun of their primitive musical movements when one of them cam over to our table what was so amusing (he was smiling, like he wanted in on the joke). Don, smiling told him, like letting him in on the joke.
And the Marine plain and simple flatted him. WHAMO!
