Throwback Thursday: Great grandparents Daniel Webster and Sarah Jane Petty

My Petty first cousins:  These are our great grandparents  Daniel Webster Petty (1843-1913) and Sarah Jane Garrett (1850-1929).
Daniel's parents were Elijah Petty (1803-1881) and Sarah Jane Garrett (1850-1929).
When his father Elijah died according to the will, Daniel was to be the executor of the estate.  He refused so another sibling was picked.
Daniel was born in North Carolina, moved to Fannin County, Georgia, at an early age.  His mother died when was only about 6 years old.
On December 31, 1862 Daniel Enlisted- Confederate Army Co B, 65th Regiment, Ga. Infantry.
In the CSA he spent a lot of time on sick call and eventually became a medic.  He also contacted piles disease which stayed with him the rest of his life.

Daniel married Sarah Jane Garrett September 6, 1873, in Fannin County.  Sarah is the daughter of Joseph Garrett and Nancy Elizabeth  Emily Mashburn.

They moved to Murray County, Georgia, in 1890.  Murray County, is on the other side of Fort Mountain from Fannin County.

They had six children:

1.  Sarah Alice Petty (1874-1958)
2.  William Elijah Joseph Petty (our grandfather) (1875-1935)
3.  Nancy Jane Petty (1877-1965)
4.  Dawson Wesley Petty (1879-1960)
5.  Ervin Petty (1882-    ?   )
6.  James "Jim" Petty (1882-1956

Our great grandmother Sarah Jane Garrett Petty had a reputation among her grandchildren to keep their distance from her or she would grab them and shake the daylights out of them.
