Prince Albert In the Can

Quick!!!

Get him out, he is smothering!!!

The Sky Is Falling!

On this date, August the 20th, in 1960, the USSR recovered two dogs, being the first living organisms to return from space.

And to put it mildly, we were scared shitless. What would those Red Commies do next? But, we lived through it.

Old Cobb County Pictures

If you are older than 55 and like to see old pictures of Cobb County that will probably bring back memories I think you will enjoy visiting The Marietta History Museum tomorrow at 11:30am. Curator Amy Reed will present some old pictures from the museum’s Vanishing Cobb collection.

Or you may be from another area and are very interested in Cobb. So, it may be an something academic for you to do to learn more about your community.

Me? I’ll probably be the one dabbing my eyes with Kleenex.

It is a brown-bag thing, so bring your lunch if you want.

In the Jailhouse Now

At the Good Old People's get-together yesterday evening I was talking to an old friend who told me as a teenager, in downtown Marietta, on Halloween night he was caught by the police throwing eggs.

He was arrested and thrown in the jailhouse. Then the jailhouse was an old building made of granite rocks. It had bars on the windows and sometimes the inmates inside would holler at you if you strolled by, taking a shortcut through Marietta's back alleys.

Fortunately, he said, he had to only spend a couple of hours in the clinker until his mother came and got him out.

He said there were some strange looking characters in there.

What he said made me think of the cover of CUD comic #2, by Terry LaBan (above). Click on it to read and see the details.

Birthday Boys!!!

The Good Old Farts, Old Men, Old Boys, Old People, or Old Oldies had a birthday cake celebration for the four people standing.

They were wished a Happy Birthday and each got to make a birthday wish.

We GOP are very generous and fair when it comes to handing out wishes.

We had a Delicious meatloaf by Kay Calhoun...... great taters, and the corn was very good too, even if it was stirred by me.

Waiting Room Humor

In a waiting room this morning I was sitting watching 2 little colorful birds in a cage flitter and flirt with each other.

Then my focus on the birds was interrupted by a fast talking man at the receptionist’s counter.

He said he was going to need someone to hold his hand the rest of the day. He said he was listening to the radio and forgot where he was at and went past the turn to turn into the doctor’s office parking lot. He couldn’t turn around because it is five lane street. He had to go around a huge section of several blocks to get back on track. All those one-way streets were fighting against him he said.

This time around anticipating the turn and nervous about it he turned too soon, again winding up on a no-way out to a multi-deck parking lot. He had to loop around following the exit arrows to get out of the parking deck and of course, he did not have to pay because he was there less than 15 minutes.

Then, something else happened on his next attempt but I didn’t catch it. I couldn’t hear what he said because the receptionist and two nurses were cracking up and making laughing comments.

On his next attempt he made it in and had some kind of incident in the parking lot. Again the women staff was cracking up so us in the waiting room could not hear.

“And Here I am!” He said.

After going over a couple of things the receptionist told him that she needed a $25.00 co-payment.

“I don’t have twenty-five dollars on me – do you accept Master Card?”

She did. And as he hand her the Master Card he said, “The difference between you people and Jesse James is that Jesse James had a gun and a horse and you people have a credit card machine!”

I heard that. Nobody bellowed out laughing…. In fact, nobody even smiled.

1954 Marietta Yellow Pages M M

There are two remaining M pages. So, we can say they are M&M pages. Or we could say M-M like getting your lips loosen to sing.

Of these two pages the only thing that I found interesting is that Ken Stanton Music and Sports is listed on Whitlock Avenue and Roswell Street.

I remember when Ken Stanton shared a store with Kelly Sports on Whitlock Avenue which is now the GONE WITH THE WIND MUSEUM.

And I remember when Ken Stanton had a store on Roswell Street across from Roswell Street Baptist Church, next door to the Big Apple. But I don't remember them operating two stores at once, which the yellow pages advertisement indicates.

And Ken Stanton is listed as "Music and Sports". I thought Kelly owned the sports part of the business.

But don't put too much stock in what I remember or don't remember. I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday.

My Petty Genealogy Part 26

On this report the heads of the families are g-g-uncles and aunts, except the last head, William Elijah Joseph Petty and Frances Viola are my grandparents. Although they have been dead a long time it doesn't mean they "were" my grandparents. They always will be my grandparents.

Also, on this report if a person does not reproduce the last entry you will see is as children. On the other hand, if they do reproduce they appear again, on down the line as the head of the households. I mentioned this because the two oldest of my grandparents kids, Georgia and Tom did not reproduce. So, this was the last chance to show some of their pictures in this continuation report.

In the fall in Atlanta had the Southeastern Fair at the Lakewood Fairgrounds. Every year at that time, the Grants would come down from Chattanooga and stay a couple of days. Georgia would stay in Marietta to visit siblings and Cecil would go to the Southeastern Fair alone.

Georgia and Cecil both were very short people. And drove a small car for the times - a Crosby. Cecil was bald headed. Once (during Southeastern Fair season), when they were visiting, I was about four years old, I asked Cecil could I spin my top on his head.

On 4 November 1958, Cecil was on top of his wooden building in the back of the house making repairs to the roof. He had a metal hammer. The nail he hit an electrical wire, and in turn, electrocuted Cecil. He died fifteen days before his fifty-seventh birthday.

Frank MacKenzie (c1942 - 2009)

I got a mass-email this morning telling everybody in our graduation class that our classmate Frank MacKenzie had died Saturday, Saturday, August 15, 2009, in Jacksonville, Florida.

I hated to hear Frank had died. In my early teen years his family lived directly behind us. We lived on Richard Street and they lived on Toliver Street. His family was new in town. His father was a veterinarian, owning a clinic on the 4-Lane.

Frank had a brother named Mike who had a ventriloquist type of puppet – the kind that you put on your knee and move his lips and throw your voice. He also had a sister named Beth. Most of the toys they had were educational type of toys. I thought the dummy was the most impressive toy in the house.

The email went on to say Frank has been very sick the past several years. Two sons survived him.

Frank and I never did hit it off as close friends. I don’t think we disliked each other. We just chose to ignore each other through high school - probably because we ran with completely different types of people. His friends carried around research books and slide rules and my bunch didn’t carry any books unless one had something funny in it.

About 1970, years after we graduated and I was married I ran into Frank at Treasure Island Discount Store. He was a floor manager of some kind. He looked very busy and very concerned and focused on is work.

I think he was a good person who wanted to do right.

Big Bad Bully Ballsy Bill

Bill used to be a postal clerk. He always had a smile on his face. People instantly liked him. He was well over six foot and muscular. I think he worked out.

He was a very bold person… saying things you wouldn’t believe he said, but yep, he did. I saw him more than once be talking to a person he met… the person new person would take an immediate like to Bill because he big warm friendly smile. Then, suddenly in the middle of the other guy’s sentence Bill would say, “Do you think you can whip my ass?”

If it was a female he was talking to he would always be very flirty and suggestive, no matter how old or married she was. He always flirted with Barbara, the assistant station manager**, being very suggestive and plain out telling her he could satisfied her better than her sorry husband could. She always giggled and took it as a complement.

One time our sorting cases were behind a partition. On the other side of the partition were the window clerks serving the customers. Once we heard a baby crying and crying. Bill hollered out, “Shut that damn baby up!!!”

Our supervisor Art was standing close. Art was very quiet and disappeared when there was about to be trouble. – as this time, he quickly strolled off and out of sight.

Bill called Art, Art the Aardvark… because aardvarks stick their hand in the sand looking for ants and Art in a way, stuck his head in the sand.

The lady with the baby complained to the station manager and the station manager came storming up demanding who made such a loud insulting remark. Bill openly said he did.

The station manager, could have fired him for that, and have fired people for less. Bill was a very non-error fast mail sorter. He more or less told him not to do it again, if he knew what was good for him.

Then we reported to work at midnight. One night I met Bill and another clerk Charles at a bar* a couple blocks away for a drink before work. We had our drinks and talked about people at work. Two men near us somehow joined in on the conversation. I think Bill asked one of them what did they think about something, which invited them in. I knew it was coming… I could see the wicked look in Bill’s face. I just about knew he was going to say, “Do you think you can whip my ass?”

But he fooled me. He pointed at me and said, “Do you think you can whip his ass? He thinks you are an ass-hole.”

In so many words I jumped up and said I didn’t say that.

Bill laughed and said, “Ed, you are so predictable, I knew you would say that, admit what you said like a man.”

The man stood up and was handing his watch to his friend. Then Bill said, “Take it easy man, that was a joke. Why would he say that? I would say that first anyway – you look like an ass-hole.”

I was glad the pressure was off me, but it looked like there still might be a fight. Bill stood up by him, about a head taller, Bill seem to swell as he talked. The guy said he didn’t want any trouble…. And we all went back drinking and we left rather quickly.

Of course at work Bill told everybody I was trying to pick a fight with some redneck.

One time in December when the mail was heavy Bill was cutting up with some carriers when he should have been working and the postmaster saw it. He told the supervisor Art to say something to Bill. I think because the postmaster was standing there, Art actually said something to Bill. Bill got back to work but fussed at Art for days for being a nick-picker.

At our Christmas dinner when people covered dishes Bill brought a great looking cake his wife had made. We all picked a little of everything. When Art took a slice of Bill’s cake Bill hopped up and told him to put it back, he didn’t say he could have any of his cake. Shyly, Art put it back. Then as people walked by Bill would tell them not to take that piece Art had his hands all over it.

After a couple of years of clerking Bill got bored and requested to transfer over to be a rural route carrier. After the learning curve period he got to be the fastest carrier at the branch. He would quickly case up his route and leave, deliver the mail and comeback to the branch and was going home before most of the carrier even had their vehicles loaded to go out on their route.

A rural route carrier is paid differently than a city carrier. City carriers get paid by the hour. Rural route carriers get paid a certain amount for each day, whether it takes him or her 2 hours or 12 hours a day to do his job. I think December is an exception, they probably get paid for hours over 8 hours in the prime mailing month.

Bill’s wife had a baby and he decided he needed a part time job. He got a job repossessing cars. And he had a ball doing it. He would repossess cars in the middle of the night…. He came in most mornings telling of the adventures on his new job. He always ended his episode with, “bunch of losers.”

Then he got the idea that all the clerks and carriers were a bunch of losers – we were in dead-end jobs. Every morning when he in and holler out, “Good morning you bunch of losers!”

Bill was almost paranoid about being identified with groups he thought were losers. One time going to dump, which is next to the county farm prison, is a bus stop. At the bus stop were several people, some probably just released back into the free world. One was a tall guy who, at a glance, looked like Bill… came short hairstyle. The next day when I saw Bill I told him I thought I saw him standing at a bus top on County Farm Road.

“God No!!!” he said. Only a bunch of losers would stand at that bus stop. “Hell no! If I didn’t have a car I would walk before standing around with a bunch of losers!”

So, for a week or so I got some mileage out of that – asking him what he was in for, was they nice to him, he didn’t bend over for the soap in the shower did he? Did people smoke at the bus stop (another thing he was critical of people for), etc.

Bill decided he needed more money than he could earn part time as a repo man. He met up with the right people who put up the money for him to a mountain resort cabins project.

He bought huge amounts of acreage in the north Georgia Mountains, clear the land, buy double-wide trailers and build a deck and a A-frame roof around them and the purpose was to have cabins available for rent.

After that he was spending more time on that job than his full time job. He resigned from the post office.

Bill quit the postal service and went whole-hog into his business adventure. I hope he did will, I haven’t heard about him since.

When Bill quit of course they had to replace him. Bill’s route was one of largest with the most mail traffic, so he was a high pay route. Several people wanted that route. My friend Joe had enough seniority and he got it. Which was a good paying route until the next route count.

Once or twice a year counters come and count each route. The counters are clerks, carriers, supervisors, and retired personnel volunteers. They count each piece of mail, measure each parcel, count the number of stops, measure the miles driven, and so on. Everything is taken into consideration. Even measure each parcel and weigh it. Each item depending on what it is represents so many units of time. Like, for instance a certified letter would take more time than a regular letter, you have to go to the door and get someone to sign for it.. a heavier large parcel would take more time than a small parcel. And during that week, I suppose everything is averaged out, which should represent the carrier’s work the other weeks of the year.

In the case of city carriers the routes are adjusted by adding to or taking off, which sometimes creates new routes.

In the case of rural routes sometimes the size of the routes are adjusted but more times than not the pay is adjusted.

After they counted Joe’s new route (Bill’s ex-route) they adjusted his pay by giving him about a $10,000 pay cut.

In the past week or so we have been surfing Google for a cabin in the north Georgia mountains to rent. And that reminded me of Bill.

I remember every time Bill’s route was counted suddenly quiet a few people begin getting big parcels and certified letters, all mailed with the same return address…. Hmmmm.

Joe now had been retired a couple of years. Not too long ago I ran into at a yard sale my one of my neighbor’s had. We were discussing how come they cut the pay on his route from Bill’s count to his count. Joe told me one of the things Bill did was list every one who lived on a corner as two addresses, one for each street of the corner. That probably showed he had about 15 to 20% more customers than he actually had.

*This doesn’t have anything to do with the story, but the bar was owned by an ex-postal carrier we knew. His wife owned a beauty salon. Their claim to fame was that their underage daughter was videoed in bed with Rob Lowe in a hotel in Atlanta.

** This doesn’t have anything to do with the story either. Barbara was pretty and aggressive. The main qualifications to be a post mistress. In just a couple of years she was promoted to a postmaster’s job in a little southwestern Georgia town. Within two years after that she died of cancer.

SUNDAY FUNNIES - MAD #8 - Frank N Stein

This is the beginning of MAD number 8. The cover introduces the first story, a takeoff on Frankenstein, was done by Harvey Kurtzman – the cover, not the story. The story was drawn by Will Elder.

The inside cover is a subscription advertisement for themselves, was drawn by Jack Dave.

Back to the Frank N. Stein story. I think this story and maybe a couple of others inspired MAD copycat artists… Elder more or less draws in a way anything goes, much like a Marx Brothers movie….. and MAD’s competitors followed.

Also in this story Elder uses the same characters used in the story GANEFS! Whatz-his-name and Bumbles… and the last line is almost last the line of the first story stating that Bumbles fumbled.

BBQ & Music - Both With Spice

We went to a barbecue cook-off and a blue grass festival, sort of, in nearby Kennesaw yesterday evening.

The parking was difficult. We finally parked in a Dollar Store / Brewster’s Ice Cream parking lot…. And so did a lot of other people. Each store might as well closed for the evening.

I felt, until I got used to it, at the cook-off, we were the cookees. The sun was bright and the heat was blaring hot. All we needed was an apple in our mouths and a dry-rub.

I suppose there were twenty or more tents or camps,. There were different contraptions of smokers with teams of people at each preparing what they think is the best with their secret ingredients…. But more than that, I think it is a social thing. They see their friends and competitors at the different cook offs and they develop their own little community with their own cliques and their elites, and their own bragging rights.

Along with them comes the carnival atmosphere of venders selling things like cotton candy, funnel cakes, polish sausages, steak on a stick, and games such asthrow balls and win prizes… suckers get in line here… then you have booths of things like Verizon, Comcast, and other companies trying to get to know you better – to register for a prize… and every time you will probably win something that someone wants to drop by your house and deliver and introduce to you a new vacuum cleaner or something.

We ran into a couple that we have known through the years. It seems lately we have ran into several times, mostly at concerts. We talked about several movies we have seen and this and that. Our friendship is sort of based on cultural self-back-patting. They told us they walked out of several plays in downtown Marietta’s Theater of the Square because of “weird stuff” and “gay stuff”. I said I enjoyed watching it all. They looked at me blankly for a second and then went back with our cultural pat-on-the-back talk.

We had barbecue sandwiches from the commercial venues and nibbled samples from some of the contestants that were proud to hand out samples.

I think all the tents and booths that sold barbecue none had seating for their customers to sit. Way out of the way where the music was being performed were seats but they were not close by. At one time we were tired and wanted to sit and also wanted something to eat. We bought one bbq pork sandwich from a booth named Beer Duty BBQ Catering out of Atlanta, mostly Sandy Springs, they told us. We wanted to split one sandwich. They graciously provided us with two paper plates and cut it into for us. Not only did they do that but they also brought two seats from the back for us to sit in. How is that for service? The meat they piled on that one sandwich was enough for 3 normal bbq sandwiches. The pulled meat had just enough fat in it to enhance the flavor and it was delicious! Click here for their website.

We also went to their live music area. The group that was on stage had a mixture of rock and bluegrass. They were pretty good. The main one had a voice like Elvis and face like Elvis if he was alive today… winkles on a sagging face. The audience was sort of small. Only three rows of folding seats were being used. The first row has a few sitting on it. One the first row was an alert looking man to look to be about age 35 to 40. He had a full beard and a bright blue shirt. I noticed he clapped the loudest and seemed to be the most attentive. He was sitting alone. One time he hollered out to the main singer asking did they ever play in Knoxville. The main guy said yeah, they had a gig lined up the week before Thanksgiving in Knoxville and told him where at.

He stood and socked the air and said, “By God! I’ll be there!”

Good Lord! Were they that good? Did I miss something?

The fan was a big man. He was stout and big. In just about any fight I think he would be the winner in most cases.

In one of the songs the key singer, the old Elvis-sound-alike, walked out in the audience singing and strumming his guitar. His main fan was tickled pink. He stood about 4 feet from him and followed him with his camera-cell phone. I think the big brute of a fan had a crush on the old man.

I noticed the also had a CD he had bought from the table down front. He kept looking at it.

After the group’s time on stage they packed up their musical instrument to make way for the next group “Hurrican” Somebody with his backups the Singing Cowboys or some such name the star struck fan came up to the edge of the stage and was talking to the old Elvis. Suddenly the big fan walked off quickly, stopped about 15 feet away, turned and said something to the old man, then left rather hurriedly. I wonder what that was about.

“Hurricane” then kept looking for something on the edge of the stage. He walked around looking for whatever it was, back tracked his footsteps, carefully looking down, then back over to where he and the fan exchanged words… he never did find it.

I wonder if the fan picked up a little authentic souvenir to snuggle up to last night?

Edwin "Ed" Tyson Hunter, Sr. (1911-1988)

My daddy was born on this date, August 13, 1911, 98 years ago, in Marietta. He died in Marietta, July 14, 1988, at age 77.

He seemed to have known everybody in town by their first names. I remember he would pay his utilities bills in person. It would not occur to him to mail them a check. The Cobb County Water System, and utility companies, such as Atlanta Gas, Georgia Power, and the telephone companies had/have cashiers. He felt paying them directly without going through the post office he knew they got it. And I think to him it was a good excuse to walk around the downtown Square and possibly run into old friends and talk and catchup with them. As I get older I understand.

Lookie!! Here Is the Good Old Boy Article!

Above is what I was talking about in the previous article.

Some of my blogging buddies who haven't actually met me face to face (lucky you) might not recognize me in the crowd. In the top picture I am on the front row, in the center with the darkest shirt on. It appears that I am the shortest one there. That is simply not true. Everybody else wore elevator shoes.

Remember if you click on each picture you can see things better and might even be able to read the text.

Us Good Old Boys Made the Paper!!

Yep, Sure 'nuff. In my blog post about our weekly GOP meeting I mentioned a photographer from The Marietta Journal was there.

His photographs is in the MDJ paper this morning. But, it is not in the MDJ on-line edition - or I couldn't find it anyway.

It was a short and sweet write up with 4 pictures and a small paragraph. What more could we ask for?

It is on page 3 of the Cobb/State section 3B). We are conveniently right next to the obituaries and at our age that is something. When the time comes they can just rake us over a couple of columns.

a CEO & Me

A few weeks ago our neighbor’s daughter came to town for about a week’s visit.

She lives in Fairfax County, Virginia. I knew she was coming. She always calls to make sure it is OK for her to borrow Willow for her morning runs. Sure, why not.

This time she needed my services too. A male friend was coming with her. On the second day her, her daughter, and her mother were going to a relative’s wedding. She wanted me to drive her friend Kirk around to show him Marietta.

Kirk reminded me of Jay Leno, a big chin, white hair, and dressed nice, neat, and expensive.

Kirk lived in this area back when he was in high school. He lived here for about 4 years. He said everything had changed. I think Kirk is the same age as Jane, so he is about 50, He lived here about 32 or 33 years ago.

I told him I hope it was OK for us to take my old pickup truck, Anna had to run errands in her car. He seemed taken back, but said, “Sure!”

When we got on the road, I remembered I had NPR on which was playing classical music at the time. I asked him did he want to hear something else. He said, no, he loved classical music. I like it too when I drive alone. At least I didn’t have to surf the stations trying to find something he liked. He was easy to please. I like that.

He wanted to see his old house off Holly Springs Road. He told me the street name and I automatically thought “92!”. That was the route number of the street he used to live on, 6292. I knew exactly where it was at and took him there and he found his house and was somewhat taken back that some bigger trees were no longer there and the house needed a paint job.

He asked to see Blackwell Elementary School. While driving there I asked him did he go to school at Blackwell. He said no, he was a janitor there. He worked part time when he was in school. Again, he was surprised to see how Blackwell School had grown. I told him it had grown so big it swallowed itself. That cracked him up.

He said at times he imagines himself returning to Blackwell School and walk around and tell the people his position now. I said, "That was about 30 years ago, you think the same people would be around?" He, almost like admitting defeat, said no.

I thought I would drive downtown and show him things. He was amazed how Canton Highway had changed with all the businesses. When he lived in the area Canton Road was mostly farms and pastures, with a few mom and pop stores.

He liked downtown Marietta. He thought it looked the same, only now it looked much better. “Cleaner and neater” he said.

“A yuppie’s paradise”, I said. He glanced at me with no comment.

I went on and told him now downtown is mostly antique shops and lawyers’ offices. He said that was good, he has a degree in law too.

I said, “Business must be good for so many lawyers.”

He laughed and repeated, “Business is good.”

I asked did he live in Fairfax, Virginia, also and he said no, he lived near Springfield, Virginia and his office was in D.C.

My distant cousin and wife, William and Dorothy Hunter live in Springfield, Virginia.

Someplace in our conversation he brought up that he owns a 500 year old house in historic Belgium. He said he bought it when he lived there for eight years and never sold it…and returns there from time to time for a get away.

“Whoop-dee-do”, I thought but politely kept it to myself.

I pointed out highlights I thought he might be interested in, like the Confederate Cemetery the National Cemetery, where Mary Phagan was buried, where Jon Benet Ramsey was buried, where Jon Benet’s grandfather lived, where I grew up, where I did this, where I did that, and so on.

After a three hour tour I dropped him off at my neighbor’s house and he thanked me, he said he really appreciated the personal tour.

I enjoyed it too I told him.

And that was that.

He flew back in the next couple of days and Jane did some maintenance for her mother and drove on down to Saint Augustine, Florida, to meet up with another school chum that lives there.

After Jane left I asked my neighbor what did Kirk do for a living.

She said he is a CEO for an oil company.

Damn, I let him slip through my fingers!

It is probably best I didn’t know Kirk was a CEO for an oil company. I would have made a fool of myself, one way or the other – that is if I hadn’t already.

Minutes of the GOP(eople) Meeting

(click on any photo to make it larger)

First of all, the GOP(eople) Party kicked off a parade with the guests of honor, the Mayor Elect, Larry Bradford and Vice Mayor Elect James Caudell.*

It was one of those one car parades and the marching band got lost at the first turning a corner (they went straight).

A photographer from the Marietta Daily Journal mingle among us and took pictures and took names. He also took one big group picture and ate a hamburger.

This time ring-leader Monty Calhoun saw that we had blue table clothes and he and his vice-cook (french fries chef) Chip Newport had on masculine (no frilly flowers) solid color aprons. Rupert Raines brought the tomatoes that his cousin grew and became the official tomato cutter and later got promoted to official hamburger flipper.

We, who used to know each other as teenagers, mingled and reminded each other of some embarrassing times.

Mayor Elect Bradford’s first political Statement: Read My Lips!!

*Vice Mayor Elect James Caudell was not sure of the duties of a vice –mayor. “Does that mean I get to entrap prostitutes like vice-cops?”

What one remembers is, well, what one remembers. Different stuff for different people. It is sort of like the quote, "Art is in the eyes of the beholder" - or in this case, Memory is in the eyes of the beholder.

On this, under machines I learned two things I didn't know:

1. Harris Machine used to be Dobbs Street. When I knew Harris Machine it was on the 4-Lane, in a hangar looking building near the corner of Seminole Place. It was on by my class-mate Scott Harris's father. And I delivered the Atlanta Journal newspaper to Mr. Harris's brother, who, was named Mr. Harris also.

2. Carson Machine used to be on Butler Street. Butler Street had a mattress factory, several garages, S.A. White Oil Company, and on the corner Powell's Barber Shop. And just over a fence, a sort of miniature rail road yards. I didn't know Carson Machine Company was there. When I knew Carson Machine it was on the 4 Lane South, almost across the street from the bowling ally. Mr. George Carson's children were high school chums of mine, Kay and George.
