SUNDAY FUNNIES!! MAD #7 Harvey Kurtzman's HEY LOOK!

This is completely by editor Harvey Kurtzman.  But they were created before MAD.   As a freelance cartoonist Kurtzman sold these "fillers" to editor Stan Lee tro use in what would become MARVEL Comics..  I don't know how Harvey kept ownership but he did and recycled them in MAD.

As usual, click on page to make it readable and understandable, maybe.

SUNDAY FUNNIES!! MAD #2's HEX

Here in Cobb County, Georgia, there are some big Braves' fans.  And the rest of us whether we like them or not, we are stuck with them.  The Braves Stadium is in Cobb County.  And we are paying in taxes for all the services that come with a stadium.

Georgia's own the late Jack Davis illustrated the story by the late editor  Harvey Kurtzman.

as always,l click on the pictures to make them readable and hopefully understandable.

SUNDAY FUNNIES!! Thank You For Your Service

There seems to be a surge of patriotism thanking serviceman and ex-servicemen for their service.  To jump on the bandwagon, here I go again, with a story out of MAD Comicbook #10 G.I. SHMOE illustrated by Wally Wood and written by Harvey Kurtzman.  As usual, click on each panel to read the balloons and to see what is going on.

Will Elder, Harvey Kurtzman, and GANEFS

I love Will Elder drawings, slapstick  - minute details and Harpo Marx-like as they are.  Also, after learning that editor Harvey Kurtzman would mimic or pantomime the exact body language he expected his artists to convey’  Now, it is additional entertaining to go back and imagine Kurtzman acting out the actions  he created, such as these Elder illustrations in MAD’s GANEFS:  I wonder if Kurtzman was humming or singing in the 4th and 5th cartoons.

SUNDAY FUNNIES!! MAD's Will Elder's 1st!

We bought the above book.  They have a book  of this style for each of  the original four MAD artists.

So!  The below story illustrated by Will Elder is in this book.  It is the first story in the book.  It originally appeared in MAD #1 Comicbook, the very first MAD publication.  The story was written by MAD editor Harvey Kurtzman.

SUNDAY FUNNIES!! Broadway Musical from HELP Magazine

We still have the BROADWAY bug.  I feel like singing and dancing around a NYC light pole using my umbrella guide my leaping flight or.. or..not.

This take of behind the scenes, or backstage of a Broadway musical was torn from the pages of HELP #7 (1960s).  It was drawn by Paul Coker and supposedly also wrote the article, but I bet the editor Harvey Kurtzman added his twist to it too.
