Marietta Downtown
I was born at the corner of Atlanta and Waterman Streets, which was two blocks from the Cobb County Court House. Less than a year later we moved around the corneer to the Clay Homes. Then we were one closer. From toddler to teenhood I lived there. I knew the streets and alleys downtown like a war child. I considered downtown as my comfort zone and still do, and still have to return often for a recharge. As we did yesterday.

The Downtown Marietta Back Drop
I instantly thought it is not unusual to see downtown Marietta as a backdrop in movies. The buildings are universal “downtown” in Any City, U.SA. I think we have seen at least three downtown Marietta scenes in the past several months – without any hint it was a southern town.. The geography had nothing to do with the story.
I thought back to when I was a teenager and after school, we hung out at Atherton Drug Store in downtown Marietta. A lot of times we hung out in front of the store because Doc Atherton would get irritated with us hanging out at the lunch counter and not buying anything.
If the same practice was today as yesteryear the back drop of some movies might be confusing – like why are the same teenagers that were in the Living Dead movie also in the Sharky and the Bad Guys movie, hanging out on the same corner.
Speaking of Atherton Drugstore, Halloween night 1963, it, without
warning, blew up, killing and injuring. A leaky gas line in the
basement was the reason. Atherton Drug Store is gone and in its place
is Marietta Pizza.

Strand Overlook
The Glover Park Concert Season is here. On the last Friday nights of the months people will bring their wine, picnic supplies, to enjoy outside concerts in the park.
However, perched above the park is this party place on top of the Strand Theater with their own band. Their music is usually louder than the music at street level. So, their music for about a dozen or so people will had overruled the music thousands came to hear.
Disruptive.

Hot July Sunday Afternoon, Downtown Marietta, Ga
Did Brumby Chair Company retail store close?
It was pleasant downtown.
We ate the Company Salad outside Marietta Pizza. There was a slight breeze that felt very
good.
All was going nice until a guy walked by with a Marine Tee
shirt on. He was nice, jovial, and
agreeable. Then he moved in for the
kill. He told us a very sad story about his
two grandkids’ parents lost their lives and now he needed some money to be able
to start their new home with him off
right.
We declined, saying we are retired with a limited
income. So, he applied more serious
consequences of what might happen to his grandchildren, getting lost in the
foster-care system
The guy should have been a professional salesman with a
time-sharing outfit. He knew all the
moves and had answers one step ahead of us.
Again, we said no.
To make a long story short we gave him a twenty and got his
blessing….. funny, once he got the money he didn’t ask us for our address to pay
us “double back” like he promised.
