Charles and Paul

This is Anna's uncles, her mother Marie's  two brothers, the youngest is Charles Jones Foster (1925-2012) and  saluting Paul Everett Foster, Jr (1922-1995).

In school Paul worked part time as a projector operator at the Strand Theater in Marietta.  He joined the Marines and fought in the Pacific.  After the war he reenlisted in the Air Force.  After that tour he joined the Marietta Post Office where he retired.  He married Barbara Shea, no  children.

Charles also worked for the Strand Theater while he was in school.  He was in charge of getting the weekly programs printed and delivered.  During WWII he enlisted in the Army, went to Pilots school and flew supplies in Europe during the war.  Afterwards, he continued being a pilot for TWA until he retired.  He married Florence Rogers and they moved to Kansas City.  After he retired they moved back to Marietta.  After Florence died he married Jane Johnson.

Charles an Florence had three daughters.

Nettie Vaughan, Her Own Person

click on picture to enlarge it.  It looks better then.

Thanks for Fredrick Tucker for the picture.

Here is Anna's distant relative Nettie Aileen Vaughan in 1915.  I like this picture and although we have not met I am pretty sure I would like her if we did.  She looks like a individualist type of person who had to see things for herself; put on no airs; unpretentious;  and of course marched to her own drummer.

Yesterday we carried Marie to the funeral of Dot Croy, her very good friend and confident.
After the funeral we took her to Johnboys, her favorite restaurant.  Before she had  even tasted her soup she started shivering like she was freezing.  I gave her my coffee to warm her up.  She could not drink it her hands were trembling so bad.  Something was wrong.
We carried her to the ER.
The medical staff said she would die soon.  Thanks to facebook her grandchildren were alerted.  When she died she surrounded by family.
She died at 11:09.  The nurse said she stopped breathing then.
However the doctor could not get to her examine her vitals until after midnight, so her death is officially noted as dying the next day.
She lived 94 years.

Friday, April 10, 2015

This picture was taken during my parents' courting phase.  Left to right:  The first couple are my parents, Ed Hunter  and Janie Petty;  the second lady I do not know, I think her name might be Jonnie Rollins; the next lady is  my mother's older sister, Opal Petty; and the next couple  is Lois Carter and her date.  I don't think her date in this picture was  her future husband , Toy Moon, they probably had not met yet.   Lois like Opal and Janie (and maybe Jonny Rollins) were from the hills of north Georgia who had come to Marietta to work.

They were young and then they married, multiplied,  grew old,  and died, like we all will.

Charles Jones Foster (1925 - 2012)

Anna's uncle Charles Jones Foster died Wednesday,January 11, 2012, only about 3 weeks short of his 87th birthday.

Charles was born in and grew up in Marietta. He loved aviation. As a teenager he used to ride his bike to Atlanta to watch the planes take-off and land. In WWII he joined the Army and became a flight Engineer. After the war he became a pilot of TWA.

Before the war, he and his brother Paul worked at the Strand Theater. Paul ran the projector with Charles help and Charles also got the weekly previews printed up and distributed.

Charles was very sensitive about the right food. His diet was the ideal non-fat diet. Once he told me he has never eaten a Varsity Hotdog but he has tried their chicken-salad sandwich. I didn't know whether to complement him or feel sorry for him.

His life was not without tragic. His first wife Florence died and the oldest of his three daughters died before he did. He married secondly to Jane who was a good partner for him. Jane kept him active.

Charles was a good man which I'm sure his off-spring would agree.

South Pacific - Not the Musical

With the coconut bra it reminded me of the movie SOUTH PACIFIC. This my wife's uncle Paul Foster and his Marine unit during war time (WWII war time) in the South Pacific. This is a spill over from the previous post.
