SUNDAY FUNNIES!! Hot Rod

This came out of the pages of EC's WEIRD FANTASY #19, publlished 1953, art by Jack Kamen. Like many EC story plots, it has an O'Henry ending.

Fore Skin and Seven Years Ago…

(click on either image and it will get bigger - you know what I mean?)

I want to warn you about dicktaters. They have no conscious and have only one objective. He might show off and spew off a lot, and even stand proudly erect – but remember he is also pushy tries to be very stiff. They know all about penetration points, so don't turn your back on them.

To give you an example just how tough dictaters are, look closely at the second dictator. Someone either attempted to cut his throat or circumcised him and he survived!

A Good Eatery at Kennestone-Wellstar Hospital

The other day I had a sausage and biscuit at Whitcher Street CafĂ©. I think the sign said “Whitcher Street Grill”. Anyway, it was a big biscuit with a big sausage patty for a decent price and good too.

A year or so ago we had lunch there. I think we had something like tuna or chicken salad sandwich, which I remember was very big serving. Another time there I forgot what I ordered but I remember it was a generous helping. And not only a lot, everything I have eaten there was delilcious.

The address is 55 Whitcher Street*. Some may recognize the address as being part of the Kennestone-Wellstar Hospital complex. It is a small luncheon like place in the corridor connecting the Whitcher Street medical buildings.

As the lady waited on me asking me what I wanted on it and so looked a lot like her sister who owns the Deli Delite on Whitlock Avnue.

She told me the price and held out her hand I said, “Aren’t you the sister of the lady that owns Deli Delites?” I already knwew she was, her sister told me. She pleasantly said she was. I complemented her sister and she thanked me.

As I walked away a regular customer behind me said, “Your sister owns a restaurant? – where at?”

*55 Whicher Street is about where my late friend Bubba Johnson, as a teenager, lived with his family.

Kennestone, the Growing Amoeba

(click on image to make it bigger - run from it to make it smaller)

The above is Google Earth’s eye view of the Kennestone-Wellstar Hospital complex. I count about 18 structures that are mostly buildings but there are some deck parking lots. This is all in about a four square block area. Some of the buildings have at least six floors and most of them are connected by bridges. If I zoomed out more I could have included more of the hospital holdings but they would not be in the cluster, they would be like little satellites scattered around.

Back to the cluster you see. If one had taken an aerial picture above of the original Kennestone Hospital when it first opened in the early 1950s, and then annually take a picture of the complex or compound looking down it would look something like a shapeless amoeba, closing in on nearby buildings when suddenly it is part of them and getting bigger and bigger.

That represents a lot of health insurance!

This Day in History, March 6th

Born mar 6,
1906 Lou Costello Paterson NJ, comedian/actor (Abbott & Costello) You may remember the “Who’s on First” skit. As a youngster I mostly enjoyed them with they would meet a super monster such as Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, or the Invisible Man.

1945 Rob Reiner Bronx NY, actor/director (All in the Family, Stand By Me). Aka Meathead.

Died:

1836 Davy Crockett US pioneer (Alamo), killed in battle at 49

1982 Ayn Rand author-philosopher (The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged), dies in New York at 77

1810 Illinois passes 1st state vaccination legislation in US. I wonder if the Illinois Legislators were called communists or socialists back then? Watching out for people’s health – how UnAmerican!

1816 Jews are expelled from Free city of Lubeck Germany – what was free about it?

1831 Edgar Allen Poe removed from West Point military academy. I would that Edgar Allen Poe would be the last person to be expected to fit into West Point’s Military Academy’s box.

1836 3,000 Mexicans beat 182 Texans at the Alamo, after 13 day fight. Technically I think some of those 182 Texans were not Texans; I’m sure Davy Crockett was one of those 182 and he was a Tennessean.

1857 Dred Scott Decision: Supreme Court rules slaves cannot be citizens. I bet Native Americans were not allowed to be citizens either.

The World, Zoomed in to downtown Marietta

Here is a Google satellite site of downtown Marietta. Study it and you can see all sorts of things you may remember…. And even some resentment. For instance, the big green vacant lot slightly to the right and lower than the center of the pictures is where the Clay Homes used to be before it was bulldozed away. That gripes my ass.
To the lower left is the Confederate Cemetery and near the right border, about ¾ up is the National Cemetery.

Keep looking you will see more.

Today is History, March 5th.

1927 1,000 US marines land in China to protect American property.

Now, with all China's interests in the U.S. if they send a lot of soldiers in

here to protect Chinese property, I suppose it might be OK since we did it first.

I'm CUTENESS!

Much to my surpise there is no reason to climb the above steps. You can't open the doors. They are locked shut. When I was a student here when it was Marietta High School these stairs led to the administration office and the offics of the principal and assistant principal, which I was called to visit often. Now, this is no longer MHS, it is something like Marietta Junior High or Marietta Middle School. AARRRGGG!!! Who likes changes?

Above, Birney Memorial for the Founder of the PTA Alice Birney. I understand that each state sent a square of marble to represent their state. I want to make a memorial while remodeling my bathroom, I wonder if each state will send me some tile?

By walking around looking at other grown-ups coming and going I finally figured out this is now the official main entrance. I walked in and there was a counter and a lady that reminded me somewhat of Gloria in MODERN FAMILY, with an accent asked, “What can I do for you Cuteness?”

Maybe she meant Cuteless or something.

HOWDEE!!!

Today is history: On this date March 4,1996 Minnie Pearl country comedienne (Grand Ole Opry), died at age 84. I wonder if one of her big toes had her funeral cost on it.

SUNDAY FUNNIES!! LITTLE LULU

LITTLE LULU?

I see you are turning up your noses now. I know what you are thinking: LITTLE LULU is for small children. Wait! It just so happens that LITTLE LULU had little people talking like adults long before PEANUTS came along. Also LITTLE LULU had taken on women’s lib, bullying, falsely accused, and other issues long before it was politically correct to take on those kinds of issues. Witchcraft is dealt with often – Charley Brown wouldn’t touch something like Witchcraft with a ten foot pole.

I hope her Kleenex advertisements in THE SATURDAY EVENING POST didn’t mislead you.

SoSlang - On-Line Slang Dictionary

Linda Malone suggested that you readers (both of you) might enjoy the SoSlang On-Line Dictionary.

To check* it out, click here.

For y'all who like to try out a strange new dictionary by looking up the four-letter words, you don't have to, they come to you.

*when I say "check it out" I don't mean like you do at a library when you check it out. I just mean to "to see".

Brenda Joyce Moon Summers (1940-2012).

Anna’s second cousin, Brenda Joyce Moon Summers died Wednesday evening, February 29th. She died on Leap Day.

I have known Brenda either since grammar school or early high school. Through the years I have seen her at family functions and funerals. After a few, I said once, “We have to stop meeting like this.” She laughted in a surprised way and we have been swapping that little wit bit back and forth for years now. But, not anymore.

Brenda was a gentle, kind, and warm person. She was a family person all the way. Her family came first to her.

She has had bad luck losing the people she loved. She lost her 6 month old daughter Kristi in 1970 and more recently her grandson Luke, parents Toy and Lois, and brother and sister-in-law Doug and Mary. Her whole family had to endure one tragedy after another.

I hope that now she had found the ones she lost.

Overheard in a Waiting Room

Woman about 50: See my new phone Mama?
Mama: What is that a picture of?
Woman about 50: Starry Night.
Mama: Starry what?
Woman about 50: Starry Night. It’s a famous painting Mama.
Mama: Oh.
Woman about 50: Look.
Mama: That is a good picture of Jimmy.
Woman about 50: Here.
Mama: Is that Thelma?
Woman about 50: Yes, that’s Thelma. Here’s your picture Mama.
Mama: Shhh… I never did like that picture.
Woman about 50: When you call me this your picture comes up on the screen.
Mama: (irritated) I never did like that picture.

Homer Got His Gun

On the SIMPSONS last Sunday was Treehouse of Horror XXII which was one surrealistic plot after another, , each linked somehow to the next one, all starring the Simpson characters. Almost all the tales were a poke at a similar recognizable tale. I think most all would instantly recognized what is being lampooned except one of the first ones. I am talking (or writing) about Homer lying in a hospital bed, blind, limbs shot off and tongue missing. In his present state he thought he could not communicate until his daughter Lisa learned the only thing he had control over was his farts. He could fart at will. At first they learned he could communicate by one fart meant yes and two farts meant no. Before long the farts communication method got more complex and Homer was coming out with some very deep and profound thoughts.

That almost came straight out of the book JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN by Dalton Trumbo (1905-1976). In the book in WWI a bomb blew up right in front of Joe Bonham. Joe face was blown away, his ear drums, tongue, all four limbs, and whatever else. He could not see, hear, smell, taste, eat, or utilize any other senses. After a while he figured out he was in a hospital and had tubes running in him to keep in alive and tubes running out of him to get rid of the waste: In goes the good and out goes the bad.

He lived within his mind. He was a young man. He remembered his formative past’s detailed and dwelled over them. He thought about God, he thought about the human race’s irrational ways of interacting which caused wars. He thought about his previous lovers, he thought in detail about everything.

In time, he discovered one nurse treated him gentler than the others. I forgot how, but he found a way to communicate to her. Maybe he started out contracting his body once for yes and twice for no, just like Homer did with his farting.

I would tell you the rest but it may ruin it for you, if you had plan on reading it.

I read the book in the 1960s when I was in the Navy. It was written in 1938, When I read it I was aware that the author, Dalton Trumbo, was blacklisted because he refused to cooperate with the House of Un-American Activities with their communist behind every bush hunt.

I think they thought since his books had an anti-war message he must have been a communists.

That is what THE SIMPSONS did during the Academy Awards.

Labor in the Park

If you look at the above picture with one eye you will see Senator Clay pounding that light pole deeper into the ground. Did the city downsize the parks department's maintainance personnel again?
