Three Guys and No Baby

Three of the four living ex-presidents attended John Lewis’s funeral.  The other ex-president, Jimmy Carter, was too sick to travel.  Trump, the president announced he was not going.  I did not hear a reason.

Today, from his own lips, he explained why he chose not to go:  John Lewis did not attend his inauguration. 

That reminds me of a time my friend Van and I got into a scuffle.  Mrs. Miller heard both sides of the story and told us to go sit down, and added, “I’m not sure you two are mature to be promoted to the 4^th grade.”

Sunday Sermon : Mistakes & Double Standards

Everybody makes mistakes. To err is divine, or so the general consensus believe until somebody they don’t like “errs”…. Then it is non-forgivable.

At the postal service when I was a scheme examiner part of my duty was to randomly check clerk’s sorting mail accuracy. They legally were allowed a 5% error ratio. If I found they missed more than that then I would have to work on that with them.

When I worked in the time keeper’s office I remember one time a lady name Catherine, who was being groomed for a supervisor, on the payroll section she was assigned, had a 4% errors and management gave her a cash superior accomplishment award for only having 4% errors. However, when another person did the same section payroll and had 3% errors they tried to suspend him. He had 1% errors less than a person that received an award for not having least amount of errors. When the union representative brought this to management attention they quietly drop the charge against him – but didn’t give him an award.

It matters who makes the mistake whether it is acceptable or unforgiving or not.


When George W. Bush was in the Whitehouse he made many mistakes and the Republicans explained away, covered up, or forgave his blunders while the Democrats jumped up and down screaming bloody murder. Now, the shoe is on the other foot and Obama is making mistakes it is the Republicans are jumping and up and down and screaming bloody murder and the Democrats are on the defensive.

As CBS Sunday Morning Show last week pointed out not all mistakes are bad. The America Continent was discovered on a navigational mistake…. Other great places or things were either discovered or invented on miscalculations.

With that in mind let us think about all the grammar and spelling mistakes have I made on this blog. An’t I divine?

People Will Believe Anything

It would be funny if – well, heck, it is funny. It is funny because it is so ridiculous. The two men running for the United States Senate here in Georgia are turning half-truths about each other into slanderous lies. Both of them, the Republican incumbent Chambliss and the Democrat opposition Martin are throwing mud balls with rocks packed inside.

Both of them are tossing mud at each other that is just not true. And several investigated reporters and political reporters have pointed the real facts out that they are both lying. – even though “I approve of this message.”

The race is neck and neck. So, it will get more personal and bloodier.

And they know their gullible public will swallow anything.

She is a Cutsey! She is Perky!

A smile from her and any able body Republican man would feel it was his honor to his country to vote for her.

I think the picture was taken when Sarah was Miss Wasilla 1984.

I think what her children do is a private family matter and should not be exploited by the press. I think the same consideration should be given to her children as was given to George H.W. Bush – otherwise, we might currently have a different president.

However, I think it is OK to look at her actions as an elected public service to see if she misused her power. Here is a link to an email of a lady who knows her well from her hometown:*

The email says when Sarah took over as mayor Wasilla was virtually debt free. After she got through with them they were in debt 22 million. It looks like she is trying to be like Bush!

Democratic Convention and Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton gave a speech last night. At first he had to wait until people quit cheering and clapping. Each time he started to speak, they would go into a roar again.. I think he had rather for them to shut up so he could get on with his speech. He has a way of speaking in a candid manner which comes off as candidly honest and sincere.

Last night at the Democratic Convention Bill Clinton said that John McCain, the Republican soon-to-be nominee, is an honorable man. He is. Clinton said McCain loved his country as much as the Democrats. I believe he does. He reminded us that John McCain had to go through a long painful endurance ordeal as a POW in Vietnam. My hat is off to McCain. I cannot even imagine what he went through.

He also pointed out that John McCain wants to stay on the same path with Iraq and our economy as Bush. That is the difference.

Clinton said in so many words you can respect a man and praise him for his service to his country, but if his “leading a country” philosophy has been proven wrong by the present president - then you have a choice to make.

I think Clinton was also saying in so many words, “lets not throw mud at our opponent”.

I think Obama can win with a positive campaign.

I wonder who is going to throw the most mud and make whom the butt of their forwarding slanderous e-mail jokes.

Different Set of Standards

It is interesting to see what a high set of standards people set for their adversaries and opponents then look the other way when their cronies do worse.

For instance we have a man in our neighborhood that I have mentioned more than once that has been to prison a few times and he appears to always be doing something underhanded or not up to snuff.

However, on some things maybe he just appears to be doing worse but isn’t. Just about every summer we have drought conditions here in Georgia and burning is banned. The person I am talking about burns anyway. He burns openly, so I wonder if he is even aware of the law.

The neighbors don’t like it and say they are afraid he is going to burn down the neighborhood and the nerve of him openly breaking the law like that.

And yet other men in our neighborhood who are more in the clique burn too, but burn at night so no one can see the smoke. The same neighbors laugh and chuckle about how clever the burners are to wait until after dark so the fire and police officials cannot see a cloud of smoke.

I heard on the news this weekend. John Edwards admitted having an affair in 2006. The lady he had an affair with has a baby and there is speculation whether the child is his or not. When asked, he said absolutely not, he loves his wife. So, if he loves his wife, how could it be his child?

Hmmmm… something doesn’t make sense. He already admitted having the affair. He offers as proof the reason it cannot be his child is because he loves his wife and has loved her for over 30 years. I’m confused… does non-love sex sterilize one?

Anyway, what I was getting at – a few years now it has the Republicans getting caught in sex-scandals… playing footsies in airport men’s restroom stalls; trying to meet up with young male pages; regular heterosexual affairs and so on. Here the Republicans set their own double standards, because they always claim to have a franchise on the pro-family values.

But now the Democrats proved they can do a little hanky-panky and be two-face with family values too! Not only is there John Edwards, but there was Bill Clinton, JFK, FDR – four Democrats that I know couldn’t keep it in their pants – and I am sure there are more Republican and Democrat lovers in the House and Senate.

Honesty is another thing the Republicans have claimed the only franchise on. What is the name of the Republican Senator from Alaska that has just been indicted? There are not only crooked money-under-the-table Republicans there are also crooked money-under-the-table Democrats.

I just find it interesting that each party holds such higher standards than even themselves for the other party to live by. That must be the ultimate complement.

God is a Republican

There is no doubt about it, Republicans are ordained by a special mandate from Heaven to do God’s work. If they say something it is like God Himself said it.

For instance the new TV commercial of Republican Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue and his wife are talking about sweet family stuff us that us barbaric Democrats and Independents just would not understand, a higher plain than we can possibly grasp.

Mrs. Perdue to Sonny says something like, “I sure hope those Democrats don’t start throwing mud at us. You know how Mark Taylor did with Cathy Cox in the last campaign.”

Of course it is OK to talk about your opponent if you are a Republican because God looks favorably on Republicans.

Of course, you know the website will be true and impartial and no dirt being slung. They are just doing God’s work.

Permanent Fixtures in Downtown Marietta

I am getting to be a regular fixture of Downtown Marietta, just like the water fountain and the Senator Clay statue in the park on the Square. Friday night we went to a rock and blues concert there and last night we went to a concert of the Cobb County Symphony Orchestra, and this morning I took a bike ride in the same area, and into old neighborhoods that I had ties to.

Last night with our friend Brigitte that was Anna’s immediate superior at work for years, Anna’s mother, my sister, and I went to the concert to the same park as the concert we went to the night before. Although this music was not the same as the night before. It drew a completely different crowd, although I did see some people that were also there the night before. The Cobb Symphony played movie themes, classical, such as Tchcikovsky’s 1812 (It has good 4th of July booms), and patriotic tunes. When they played the armed forces theme I stood up, as I was suppose to do with the Navy’s “Anchor’s Away” medley medleyed itself in. I took note that very few in the audience, mostly middle age and older, served in the service. Back then, when most of these men were of their prime, was also the time they should have joined or be drafted.

That is all but the wealthy, who parents had influence to get them out. Gads! I was sitting in a park full of mostly Republicans!

We sat near the roped off section of the elite who paid mega dollars for a table. There you see fancy table settings with flowers, candles, and other pretentious “look at mine!” decorations and nearly table will have wine…. Not beer like the trash on the other side of the rope. We were near a councilman and his wife that we have watched through the years and always found him humorous and interesting.. He and his wife are known for doing very eccentric things. This morning I noticed in his front yard he has three maybe four giant blown up inflatable Uncle Sams holding flags. Last night the head county commissioner and his wife shared a table with them – I don’t know but I would speculate that the councilman and his wife invited the commissioner, who happens to be the most political powerful man in the county to dine with them and enjoy the concert. It was interesting and amusing that the councilman’s wife, who had a low cut on, could not bend down in front of the commissioner too many times.. pouring wine, handing them something, she was always bending. It appeared that the commissioner did not notice, he kept on talking to the councilman.

I should have called the commissioner over by the rope and give him a few pointers on how to steal glimpses of tits… there is nothing to it once you get the hang of it.

And this morning I went downtown at 7am with my bike. There were hardly anybody there except the people working off their fines doing public service picking up trash and me.

It is interesting, early the morning seeing things you have seen all your life – the changes and all. Some good, some bad – and some ugly.

These pictures reminds me of a little dog on my paper route back in the '50s. Everyday he would growl at me. And on collection day when I walked up on the porch and knocked on the door he would get in the corner and trimble.

Barbecue Crow, Alabama Style

Williamson Brothers Barbecue is a place near downtown Marietta. They reek of Republicanism. They have signed frame pictures on their walls of all the local Republicans such as Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, Johnny Isascon, and so on. But they didn’t stop there, they also have at least two signed pictures of George and Laurel with framed letters from George thanking them for helping out in a crisis. I know of two instants they were in D.C. handing out free barbecue; when Newt was first speaker of the house and when the Pentagon was hit. They supplied free barbecue to the workers repairing the Pentagon – the latter they deserve praise.

After you are in their restaurant about five minutes you know they are staunch Republicans.

However, they do have good barbecue, so we eat there fairly often. I would say, they cook their barbecue by Alabama traditions, because that is where they are from.

Today we ate there. Anna had barbecue pork pulled and I had barbecue beef, sliced. Near us was a man in his early sixties who seemed high strung. He was a braggart and a loud mouth, he wanted everybody around him to know his opinions, which I could tell, he was telling his opinions as they were facts. He is just as arrogant as many other Republicans I thought. The more I listened, he was telling the woman he was with that he went to Georgia Tech but chose to drop out his senior year and go to the Vietnam War. He went into the Navy. Then after doing his part he came back to Tech, finished up.

Surely that wasn’t his wife he was telling all that to. He must be on a blind date.

A man and woman next to him and the his date (whatever) stood up to leave. He made some comment about how rotten George Bush is and the man I was listening to joined in and agreed with him. He said George will go down in history as being the worse president this country has ever had, if we can survive the rest of his term. The more he talked, the louder he got.

Well now, what about that, I misjudged the guy. He saw me nodding in agreement with what he was saying and as he and his blind date was leaving, he stopped by our table and went on and on about what a mistake he made when he voted for George W. Bush.

Wait! I wasn’t wrong! I cast him into a Bush voter and he was. He just isn’t anymore. So, maybe I was wrong too. He said he was never going to vote for anybody who was a Democrat or a Republican again, he was going to vote for people running on a Independent ticket.

I told him I always voted for the man, not the party. He said he voted for Bush, but wish they would impeach him now.

I wanted to ask him did he want some Williamson Brothers Special Barbecue Sauce with that crow he was eating, but didn’t.
