My Get Well Blog Post

People get get-well cards all the time.  But it is not often a blog post is made in honor of a person ill, hoping he will get well soon.

http://paranoiastrikesdeep.blogspot.com/

My blogging/MAD/ EC-Comics/Spirit Comics/did I miss any?  buddy El Postino did just that  on his blog Paranoia Strikes Deep..  I would tell you of our friendship, how it was nourished about 20 years ago but he El Postino already did that in my get-well post:.  So, I might as well get some Blog mileage out of it too, right?:

Get well quick to my fellow Madman, Eddie

My friend, Eddie, is not feeling too well these days. He’s having some medical problems that we all hope can be taken care of soon. Ed and I met through the old Prodigy service, in 1992, when both we and computer technology were young. We introduced ourselves on a DOS-based bulletin board devoted to EC Comics and specifically Mad, of which we were both lifetime fans.

Eddie, like me, loves the inspired craziness of editor/writer Harvey Kurtzman and artist Will (then known as Bill) Elder.  The title of Eddie’s blog, Chicken Fat, comes from the old Mad comics.

Here’s one of my favorite Mad stories, a spoof called “Frank N. Stein!” I scanned it from a comic book called The Nostalgic Mad. From 1972 through 1980 the publishers of Mad magazines produced eight issues reprinting the best of the classic comic book Mad, which they bound into their issues of Mad Special. This is from issue #15, 1974.

I hope it’ll help Eddie on his road to recovery. Get well soon, Ed!

Joe and Forrest

In the little blogging community I belong to I have made several friends over the years.  It is sort of like the old expression that "water seeks it own level".  One of my blogger friends is Joe.  Joe and I have a common interests in EC comicbooks, Blues, Dylan, movies, and an obsessive   fan-ship of the New Orleans Street Band Tuba Skinny.  If you go to Joe's blog  TALLEYHO you probably won't have to go far to come across a youtube video clip of Tuba Skinny.

He happened to run into many famous or infamous people, musicians, poets, movie stars and whatever.

I one time called him a real Forrest Gump.

Well, I am begging to wonder if Forrest Gump was a composit of him.  With all the people he had crossed paths with on their climb to great-hood, one of the people was the inspiration for Forrest Gump.  I should have known.

Check out his blog that he explains this.  Click on the link below:

The above is a link to just one story, the story about the Forrest Link connection.  It also mentions me.  Joe grew up in Mobile, Alabama, but has first hand knowledge of everything between Mobile and the Texas border, maybe further.  He and his wife lived in New Orleans in the 1960s, they traveled Europe over Europe, and now live in Arlington, Virginia - he has seen a lot and shares what he has seen in his blog, which is good.  If you want to see his whole blog, article after article, click on the below:

Tuba Skinny Honks Out Cemetary Life

This morning while  paying my friend Joe's blog TALLY-HO! a visit I came across  this Tuba Skinny video playing Cemetary Life.  Man!  It is good!

And Drats!  Why didn't I think of that first?

For several weeks now Joe had been searching and posting Tuba Skinny playing New Orleans type snazzy jazz.  By the way, in this video they are playing in New Orleans on Royal Street, right in front of the hotel we lastly stayed as a whole family in that city.

Sunday Funnies on hold

Sorry folks, particularly you loyal readers in Spain, Sunday Funnies will have to wait. I tried several times to transport the pictures. Each time, the little "I'm working, I'm working!" symbol goes around and around for a long time with no results.

So, what good would "SUNDAY FUNNIES" be without funnies?

I'll keep trying. Please keep checking by.

A Word From Management

A word from this blog's management, that is.

There is a blog (Mardecortes) I like to visit about once a week that is very visually unique. Last week on my visit there was a notice that the blog has been shut down because of space abuse. He used more space than he was allowed free. So, apparently, he had to settle up with them before he could do anymore postings. Which apparently he did, the blog is in full operation again.

And I have two blogging friends (El Postino and Kenju) who have read the fine print and now have reduced the size of their pictures, or moved to a newly created blog and starting over.

At least two of these blogs I think use let space than I do.

Am I skating on thin ice?

So, with that in mind I have reduced the amount of Olympian High School Yearbook pages I published daily. In case you noticed a sudden drop of quantity that’s why.

On the other hand, if you noticed a sudden drop in quality, well, that’s another story.

I Love You This Much

Suzanne of C.U.S.S. has named me and others for the I LOVE YOU THIS MUCH AWARD. I was delightfully surprised. I really appreciate Suzanne’s faith in me.

I’m not sure what duties are expected of but I will give it my best. Up until now I have been devoted to spreading hateful lies, rumors, and malicious accusations. But I am going to Love Everybody This Much (look! My arms are spread wide apart)

I humbly accept.

The Trip Part 1 : Steve & Bird

Above: Steve and The Bird.
Some of my blogger friends can stomp all over Europe and not make a big deal of it. But we rarely leave Cobb County, so when, even if it up the road a short way into North Carolina we make a big deal of it.

This time we went up the road into Franklin, North Carolina, and look! We got stories and pictures and even a run in with a ghost to discuss. When we cross the county line our eyes widen and we are amazed at every thing, just like two innocent children.

I will probably you pelt with a couple of things over the next few days about our 31 hour trip. I need to study the pictures and throw them in with my stories – visual aids.

We left at noon Friday. We had already made plans to meet blogger friends Steve and Bird in the area for dinner we got there, they lived not far.

Bird said she only had two types of food she would not eat, fast food or some other, which I forgot… it doesn’t matter anyway, because it wasn’t something we would normally eat.

We did decided to grab a grilled McChicken at McDonald’s before we hit the expressway. Manning the cash register was a young girl that looked scared shitless. It was her first day. There were about six or eight people standing on the side waiting for the orders she screwed up. The poor sweet thing was nervous. She hadn’t counted on people complaining and mad at her if their orders were wrong and plenty of them were.

Most of the lunch crowd were workers. Workers that got dirty and have to wear helmets.. They needed to eat and get back at it. No sitting around and complaining about how hard life is to them, they probably had 30 minutes to eat lunch with a whip cracking boss – a building or paving schedule to meet.

Our order from the time we ordered it until we threw the paper trash in the garbage can was 40 minutes. I told Anna we should have brought Bird down here to heat, that was not a fast food.

About 50 miles outside Franklin it began to come a downpour. It rained off and on cats and dogs for the rest of the evening. I wanted to get out and dance in – it had been a long time since we experienced rain, we are in drought conditions. I hoped this thundering burst of water reached Marietta. I don’t think it did.

The trip took less than three hours. We checked into our room and called Steve and Bird and agreed on a time to meet, we had already decided by email where.

We met them and dined. They both are very knowledgeable type of people and wise – in other words, they agreed with our opinions.

We had an enjoyable session with them.

Steve seemed the type to very relaxed and can talk endless about many subjects. Bird, may not be all that relaxed, she seemed more full of raging energy. I don’t suggest raging as mad, just a ball of energy.

Bird had great body language skills and a quick wit. I think she could do an excellent one-one-one with Harpo Marx, Charlie Chaplin, Lucile Ball, or Red Skeleton. She couldn’t sit still. I bet she would bring down the house dancing.

We had a very nice time with them, and I agree with what Steve said on his blog, this proves that it does not have to be dangerous meeting fellow bloggers. In fact, we are pretty harmless…. And I forgot my blade anyway.

What Story?

You ever get a bouncy tune in your head? I have one now: "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?"

I caught it while visiting the Ginger Quill, link on the right.

"Who's Afraid of The Big Bad Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf, tra la, la la." That may not have came out right, I am a lousy singer.

Speaking of music, I just finished my morning ritual on the treadmill. While channel surfing, looking for something good to watch while walking and panting I came across on one of the HBO or STARZ channels "Blue Brothers 2000" and watched.

I have watched that movie many times and was even given the DVD for Christmas one year and will keep on watching it. It has such a great beat all the way through it. I'm not even 100% sure I have the story completely right, but who cares?

In general, Blues Brother Ellwood is released from prison and goes out to gather up his old music makers together, where they and other musicians converge on New Orleans for a big musical contest.... many music makers also converge, such as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Travis Tritt (a fellow native Mariettan), and many more - and for some reason the State Patrol are chasing them, which generally comes off like the Keystone Cops making a snafu of things.

But it's the beat that keeps you hopping, not the story. The music in it is fantastic!
