Hunters galore

 


William Hunter and Anna Caldwell are Frank Paris Hunter's great great grandparents.
. William Hunter [48], son of Samuel Hunter [50] and Unknown, was born about 1750 in , Rutherford Co., NC, died after 1840 in Alexander, Buncombe Co , NC, and was buried in Alexander, Buncombe Co , NC.
General Notes: Many of the descendants of his son Robert live in and around Alexander and Jupiter, N.C. The family graveyard where William and his wife and many of their family are buried, is still owned by Hunter descendants.
Beside the children listed there are three more daughters for whom there are no records.
William moved from Rutherford County to Buncombe County, NC, is proven by a deed registred in Rutherford County 4 Feburary 1808 states: "5th September 1807, William Hunter of Buncombe County, NC, deeds to Lunsford Bagwell of Rutherford County, North Carolina, for $100, 200 acres on both sides of the Knobb Creek of Broad River, including John Halford's improvement adj. McFaddin granted by deed to sd Wm Hunter 8 Oct 1787"
The same day one Samuel Hunter sold to Lunsford Bagwell, both of Rutherford County, NC for $127, "200 acres on Sizemore's Branch of Knobb Creek, Main Broad River".
He is to said to have had a brother Thomas who owned a tavern in Tennessee. It has been said that another brother was also a tavern keeper. The Old High Road from North Carolina to Tennessee which follows the French Broad River is graphically described by Bishop Francis Ashbury, who mentions in his "Journal" stopping at William Hunter's on Ivy Creek, Saturday, November 8, 1800.
William Hunter owned land on Flat Creek, Reems Creek, and at the mouth of Big Ivy (now in Madison County). It is known among descendants that William made his home at the mouth of Reems Creek on the French Broad River.
Mrs. Sallie (Hunter) Jones writes that William Hunter went across the mountain to what is now Greene County, Tennessee, for his bride, Anna Caldwell, daughter of a missionary or teacher, and brought her back on horseback.
Noted events in his life were:
• He was employed. Tavern keeper - he built three taverns between Asheville and Marshall.
• Deed:200 acres of land on both sides of Knob Creek of Broad River in Rutherford Co., NC
William married Anna Caldwell [49] [MRIN: 22] in 1780 in , Greene Co, TN.
Children from this marriage were:
i. Andrew Hunter [1623] was born about 1770 and died in 1848 about age 78.

iii. Thomas Hunter [1630] was born in 1782 and died on an unknown date.
iv. William Hunter [1632] was born in 1784 in , Rutherford Co., NC and died in 1840 in Alexander, Buncombe Co, NC at age 56.
v. Robert Burton Hunter [1638] was born on 15 Jan 1786 in , Rutherford Co, NC, died in 1860 in Jupiter, , NC at age 74, and was buried in Hunter Cemetery, Alexander, Buncombe Co, NC.
vi. Anna Hunter [1845] was born in 1788 and died in 1813 in , , TN at age 25.
vii. Samuel Hunter [1847] was born on 1 Feb 1793 in , Rutherford Co, N.C., died on 1 Mar 1852 in Georgetown, Meigs Co, TN at age 59, and was buried in Limestone, Meigs Co, TN.
viii. Robert Nathaniel "Nathan" Hunter [1914] was born in 1795 in Alexander, Buncombe Co , NC and died on 26 Mar 1900 in , Madison Co, NC at age 105.
ix. Alfred Hunter [2302]52 was born on 16 Oct 1794 in , Buncombe Co, NC and died on 12 Sep 1833 in , Greene Co, TN at age 38.
257. Anna Caldwell [49], daughter of Dr David Caldwell [51] and Rachel Craighead [52], was born in 1762 in , , VA and died in 1863 in Alexander, Buncombe Co , NC at age 101.
General Notes: Anna was living with her son Robert when she died.
Noted events in her life were:
• She appeared on the census in 1860 in , Rutherford Co., NC. age 98 "Blind from age".
Anna married William Hunter [48] [MRIN: 22] in 1780 in , Greene Co, TN.
