Hide and Seek (us) or Chase and Catch (Great Locomotive Chase)

This is the Kennesaw House in Marietta. It is now a history museum.

Back in the 1860s it was a hotel by the railroad tracks to accommodate rail travelers . The Great Locomotive Chase started here, sort of. It actually started the next day in Big Shanty (Kennesaw) in front of the Lacy Hotel, also by the tracks. But most of the players in that daring event rode THE GENERAL train to the Lacy Hotel before starting.

But jump ahead in time about 82 or so years and it is a hotel again. I think it had rooms and hallways like a hotel but I never saw any customers. There were some of us preteenagers who after school a few times meet on the 2nd floor and played hide-n-seek.

We romped up and down the halls and stairs looking for a suitable hiding place while “It” counted. I remember each room looked the same. A dresser, and a chester drawers with a big water pitcher with a handle in a big bowl. I
Each room could fit any time period. I don’t remember if each room had a bathroom or not.

We found it boring, it was like playing Hide and Seek on a checkerboard.
