Save the Last Bite For Me

The Krystal in downtown Marietta closed its doors for good Sunday night. I read in The Marietta Daily Journal that James Southerland and his wife Mary Ansley were riding by and noticed the lights were out which was unusual. They drove up to see what the problem was and found out they were closing down. It was a company owned Krystal, not a franchise, and decided not to renew their lease. James “Chop Daddy” went there often, two or three times a week. He got to eat their last two Krystal burgers and lock the door behind him.

It reminded me of his sister in-law's father Johnny's brother David Hunter playing the last game of golf at the Marietta Country Club before it went under new ownership, The City of Marietta.

It made me wonder what other “lasts” occurred before old locally popular places were bulldozed away. Like, who ate the last Varner’s hamburger? Who had the last Economy ice cream? Who skated the last at the Marietta skating rink;? Who were last in the Brumby and Larry Bell pools? And what teenager bought the last beer at “The Bomb Shelter”?
