Funeral services for Dr. L.C. Tyson, a resident of Withita Falls since 1893 and one of the city's pioneer physicians will be held at 3 O'clock Wednesday afternoon from the First Christian Church... Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery with the Hines Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Resident here 37 Years: Dr. Tyson, who has been in failing health since the death of his son, Dr. W.S. Tyson in June 1928, died at the family residence about 12:45 Tuesday afternoon. He had been confined to his home during the past 20 months.
The pioneer physician and rancher was born in Rome, Ga., Nov 26, 1849. From the close of the Civil War until 1893 helived at Harrison, Ar, and fromthere moved to Wichita Falls, where he has since made his home. Dr. Tyson retired from active practice of medicine in 1919 t the time he was able to put his practice into the hands of his son. During those years here he gained a wide-spread recognition and his friends still tell of the days when Quanah Parker, Comanche chief, brought his entire tribe here for the treatment at the hands of Dr. Tyson. After his retirement, Dr. Tyson maintained his interest in farming, stock raising, and particularly in irrigation problems. On his ranch northeast of the city he had installed a private irrigation system and his interests have included a detailed study of the problem as it is worked out in Colorado and other parts of the country.
The physician had been a member of the Christian Church for more than half a century. He was among the first members of the First Christian Church organized here, and was an elder emeritus at the time of his death.
Besides his wife, he is survived by seven daughters: Mrs. S.D. Martin of Crowell, Mrs. W.B. Calhoun of Cisco, Mrs. A.M. Johnson of Lubbock, Mrs. L.W. Hill of Dallas, Mrs. S.H. Rider, Misses Catherine and Frances Tyson, all of Wichita Falls; two sons, J.W. and J.E. Tyson, both of this city; two sisters, Mrs. S.J. Smith of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Mrs. A.L. Mrs. Martha Tyson, pioneer resident of Witchita Falls, died early Friday morning in a Wichita Falls rest home.
A life-time member of the First Christian Church, Mr. Tyson knew 20 ministers of the church that she joined when she moved to Wichita Falls in 1895.
Born Dec.2 1872, in Pocianhontas County, Arkansas, Mrs. Tyson married Dr. L.C. Tyson in Bonham, Texas. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Tyson lived with a daughter, Mrs. S.H. Rider, 2009 Victory. Living through two depressions in the city, the Tyson family was at Ninth and Baylor, now the site of Luby's Cafeteria.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hampton-Vaughn Funeral home with Dr. William E. Wright, Pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Joe Tyson, Wichita Falls; five daughters, Mrs. S.H. Rider, 2009 Victory, Mrs. Ross Crittenden, Alburquerque, NM, Mrs. Bryan Ashlock, Albuquerque, NM; Mrs. L.W. Hill, Dallas, and Mrs. A.M. Johnson, Fort Worth, several nieces and nephews, 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
