Johnnie LeCroy Lassiter the Historian

this video was taken October 27, 2010.  The lady in the pink or reddish plaid is Johnnie LeCroy Lassiter.  She died Monday and the funeral is today.

This video was made when my mother-in-law, the lady in the gray, donated from her "archives" newpaper clippings, books, newsletters, and others items of interest to the East Cobb Methodsit Church/Campground Methodist Church's museum which is housed in the little school house on the church's campgrounds property.  My mother-in-law went to school there as a girl.  The younger lady is Johnnie's daughter-in-law Cheryl Smith Lassiter.  If you are an OM  may know of Sheryl's father or brothers, they owned Smith Brothers Service Station on Fairground and Clay Streets.  You also may have known Johnnie's husband, he was Doctor Lassiter, owner of Lassiter Drug Store on the corner of Fairground and Roswell Streets.  And her father was Judge LeCroy, probate judge.

It was said that when Judge LeCroy died a lot of local oral history  also died.  And I think the same is for Johnnie:  A lot of oral history was lost this past Monday.

Ronnie Knighton Had a Heart Attack

Steve Tolbert left and Ronnie Knighton, right.

Ronnie Knighton had a heart attack last night. He lived. He was rushed to the hospital and I suppose the cardiologists got his system under control and will soon, if they haven’t already, dig in, so to speak, and do what is necessary.

Ronnie is an attorney.
Not long ago I ran into Ronnie at Wendy’s. I was behind him waiting to order. We talked. It wasn’t hard to know he was a smoker by the smell of nicotine that surrounded him. I bet things are about to change and next time I see him I will know he quit smoking.

GOBAG Man of the Year Banquet

Sometimes you get what you paid for. For example Jackie hired a photographer at a dirt cheap price to take pictures of the GOBAG Man of the Year Banquet. Jackie went to the extra effort of lining everybody up for a picture-perfect group picture. He prearranged for the photographer to be where needed at the right time. He handed the award to Paul and made some witty and wise comments.. At the moment it appeared everything went off according to plan.

Later in the evening, after the group had dispersed and went their separate ways the photographer sat down at his computer to edit the video footage and Opps! Wait! Something went wrong! There were at least two minutes during the award presentation that showed nothing but the photographer’s shoes!

That is not exactly the kind of thing you can call everybody back to reenact the scene - another chance of getting it right.

Oh well.

Varner Reunion Pictures by Clarence Horton

Horaces Armfield & the Mrs and Tony Hipps

At the Varner Reunion, Clarence Horton, a friend, was mingling and taking pictures like me. He told me I could use any of his pictures as I see fit. As I see fit? OK! The first thing to do as I see fit is to take full credit for these excellent pictures! I took these pictures! Me and only me! No, I am just jesting. These are the excellent pictures taken by Clarence Horton, that I lifted off Facebook. Plagiarism isn’t dead.

Thank you for sharing your great pictures Clarence.

I stabbed at the names.  Some I knew and some I had to read enlarge the name tags and some was unreadable.  Sorry.

I will try to get my pictures posted on this blog tomorrow.

GOBAG Apr 10, 2012

It was so pretty we had our little social outside yesterday. We are not use to the elements of the outside. Hear the Good Old Boys fuss about the wind?

Monty cooked Carolina Hotdogs with spicy chili and fine cole slaw. Man! Was it good! Yes indeed.

As you can tell by the audio we Good Old Boys talk a lot, all at the same time.
