Our Noble Experiment

In the spring we bought a plastic container with three tomato plants and one bell pepper plant, so the label said.  As it turned out it was three tomato plants and one sunflower plant.

When we first planted them in a larger planter on wheels we put some fertilizer on them and water them every day it did not rain.l  Growth wise they took off.

I watered them as needed and would roll the container on the deck to keep it in the sun.

I found out if most got sizable they developed sores.  Sores?  Big blisters looking discolored  odd-shape things.

then the squirrels and chipmunks discovered the tomatoes and had feasts.    If Willow was still alive we would not have the critter problem.  She could just sprawl out in the yard and nary a critter would come near.

The tomatoes that did make it to the dining room table were bitter.

The sunflower appeared to have sit on top of the tomato bush, looking strong and proud.  After the tomatoes got the sores and bitter taste the sunflower seemed to have bent over, looking down in shame.

It was a noble experiment.
