Pettys, Spouses, and 2 Ridleys

These are my mother's siblings and the siblings spouses, mother, and her mother's brother, or my mother's uncle Walt Ridley.

Walt is the one on the second row, about in the center. Poor Walt was mentally challenged. He walked 3 miles everyday to be near his sister. Then, in the evening he would would back home.

My mother is standing to Walt's left. Either my father is taking the picture or he was not part of the family yet.

Sounds like Walt and his sister had a special bond. Given his situation, there is usually one person that a person like Walt trusts and responds to more. It's a special and necessary relationship.

Button,
I think poor Walt started going over to his sister's house (my grandmother) after her husband died and the kids started moving away with their new wives... so, he might have been an extra strong hand to help her around the house.
I remember him as a gentle easy talking fellow. I was too young to think or discuss the complexities of life, so we got along fine.
Walt died in a hospital in Milledgeville in 1953 at age 64. I never seen him in anything but overalls.

Bless his soul. There just weren't many alternatives for people in Walt's situation at that time.

I think the only problem any of the relatives had with him was peeing in the bath tub. He was known to just pee in the bath tub. I guess it was an easy target.

LOL! I've heard of worse problems than that.

Yeah, in grammar school I used to aim for where the wall and ceiling meet.
