Sept Morn

My friend Steve, the Aging Hipster (Link on the right), named a blog entry Sept Morn. Well, I am not the most original person the world, so I will do like-wise.

When people read the words “September Morn” they probably think of the painting by Paul Chabas of a nude young female in ankle deep water.

I did too, but with attachments. I also thought of Russia’s first successful satellite Sputnik.

And that is because of a satire magazine on the market in 1958 which I faithfully subscribed by the name of HUMBUG. HUMBUG Magazine was created and edited by the creator of MAD comic book and was its main sole writer and editor for the first 23 issues.

Then, to escape the Comic Book Code MAD graduated to a magazine format and he stayed 3or 4 more issues then got the boot (it’s a complex story why). So, in time he and a few of his MAD artist friends, such as Will Elder and Jack Davis started HUMBUG magazine with their own money.

Which proved one thing: If the left part of the brain is for the artistic things and the right side was for business things, their left sides were much bigger than their right side of the brain (or visa versa). HUMBUG lasted about 11 or 12 issues.

Judy,
It is one of those kind of things "Seek and ye shall find!"

I was a big fan of the ex-MAD crew and came across it, but if I wasn't looking for something like that it would have slipped right passed me.

it didn't survive my many moves and 2 divorces...

It was truly astounding!
