Vote! Your Vote Will Count!

Today we will vote while we are out doing things. I don’t know if other states do it, but in Georgia the week before, during normal business hours, you can vote at designated places.

It would be nice to get that out of the way and avoid the rush Tuesday.

Although, for the big offices I am just about sure the people I vote for will not get it. You might ask, why vote at all if you think your vote will not elect the person you want? Well, of course, there is always the chance the surveys are wrong (remember Truman and Dewey). But even if they are not wrong, I will be part of a message.

Say, Sonny Perdue gets 98% of the vote. That will give him cause to believe he has a mandate from the people to do damn well as he sees fit. And it will also give a message to the next self-recruited candidates to be like Sonny – the masses like that.

However, say Sonny got 51% of the vote. Sonny will get the message 49% did not want him elected, which isn’t a mandate by any means… so, to get things done he is going to have to compromise and bend more to what he ran against. And anybody who wants to be governor the next time around needs to note how to get that 49%.

Now, lets say Sonny gets 49% and his two opponents gets 39% and 12%. There will be a run off. He needs to compromise his promises to persuade a good portion of the other two to come to him… or instead of them coming to him, does he go to them? And the same goes for a yet unannounced governor wannabe four years from now.

One of the three places to vote today is only one block from Sam and Dave’s Barbecue. I told Anna it would be nice if our voting time coincided with either lunch or dinner time.

Voting because you might get a lunch out of it? I'm beginning to see that food is a major motivator for you!!
