Natural Bridge in Virginia

Rocky and Adam are posing in front of the Natural Bridge in Virginia, near Roanoke.

Of course through time water has worked its way through the dirt, clay, and rock to get to the other side. It is a huge natural earth work in shape of a bridge.

Being itself is unique, but another bonus unique thing is it has George Washington's initials on the side of it that young George put on it himself when he was an assistant surveyor, before his career took a turn of marrying into a rich widow and became one of Virginia's elite.

This may be the first graffiti in the New World. I wonder if George had a spray can of black paint with a friend standing near by as a lookout?

A young Thomas Jefferson, standing guard was going to put his there too but was said to have ended the affair early by shouting. "Cmon man its the cops!" just before both youths fled.

Steve,
I think both were prepared to blame it on Sally Hemmings if they got caught.

You are too funny! I have always wanted to see this (as well as Luray Caverns) but we never made it there. I didn't know that GW put his initials on it.

Judy,
George sure did put his initials on it. There is a little sign someplace near the initials telling about it.

Steve,
Wait! It just remembered that young Thomas Jefferson couldn't have been standing watch looking out for the man, because he was the man.
Thomas Jefferson's family for a while owned the land the Natural Bridge is on.

What a great site, both in terms of funny historical value and also loveliness.

It is proof that Jefferson had deep anger towards his Dad and so he helped George vandalize the bridge. Then they went and chopped down George’s dads Cherry tree.
