From the History Channel Page-a-Day Calendar. On this date in 1099 Christian Knights Capture Jerusalem in the First Crusade.
They did this because in 1095, Pope Urban II had called upon Christians to reclaim the holy lands. It did not say, but I would not doubt after they captured Jerusalem the Pope said in Latin, “Mission Accomplished.”
Their victory was short-lived – a few weeks later, the Egyptians seized Jerusalem from the Christian army.
