These are Anna’s great grandparents James Marion and Mary Jane Pannell Prance. James’ living dates are 1857 – 1935 and Mary Jane’s are 1853-1927. We can be sure the picture was on or before 1927. In the picture they are enjoying a favorite summer pastime: eating watermelon.
Anna’s mother Marie donated this picture to the Vanishing Georgia Project.
Mary Jane Pannell lived off Sandy Plains Road between Marietta and Roswell. Her family’s long driveway was eventually a road into a subdivision. The name of the road was Parnell Road. I think an official back then misread somebody’s handwriting when officially naming the road. I think it should have been Pannell Road.
But who cares now?
