Good Gun Books at the Book Store
Above Marietta Scene: Mr. Dempsey Medford behind the counter at his The Book Store.
We were sitting around the lunch room talking. I think we were in the 9th grade. In the 8th grade we ate at the Winn Street Lunchroom, which had a dark dungeon quality about it with long table and equally long bench seats. But this lunchroom was brighter with table and chairs.
We were sitting near the end of the lunch line.
As I said, we were talking casually on whatever subject came up. Somebody said The Book Store on the South Park Square just received a bunch of new gun books in. Almost all of us said we have seen the books and they looked pretty good. And we discussed which might be the best.
Then Mike Packard suddenly said as a hot news release: "The Book Store has just got some new good gun books!"
We cracked up laughing and re-used that quote in moments that needed the silence to be broken for weeks to come.
I think Mike Packard and his family moved that year. I don't remember Mike being around after he made the gun book statement.

I REMEMBER THE NAME MIKE PACKARD, BUT I CAN'T PUT A FACE TO THE NAME. HELP ME.
PR
PR,
My mental image of Mike is slightly big lips, always a smile or a puzzled look, maybe a few freckles below his eyes, maybe not, and wavy brown hair - partly lean and tall.
