Because we swiped our material off these pages of the 1955 OLYMPIAN I thought it would be only proper and nice (not to mention Heroic) that we give credit to where credit is due: The students organizations and teacher advisors who made up the OLYMPIAN, THE PITCHFORK, and the WINN STREET NEWS.

ONE OF THE GIRLS IN THE ARTICLES, HOPE WHITMIRE, WAS OUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR IN PINE FOREST. HOPIE DIED 6 YEARS AGO FROM LUNG CANCER.SHE HAS A SISTER, ANNE, WHO LIVES IN BREVARD, NC, AND HAS A THRIVING ART BUSINESS. SHE HAS SEVERAL ART BOOKS PUBLISHED AND SELLS HIGH DOLLAR ARTWORK THAT SHE DRAWS.

Good for Anne for living in Brevard, NC. Brevard. is either in or very near Macon County, NC, where several sets of my ancestors lived.
And good for her for being a successful artist - although I heard a "successful artist" is an oxymoron.

Every time I see TOUCHE' in print I think of Archie Bunker saying that one time... he used it right but pronounced it without the e'.

Funny you should mentioned Roger Senter. Today, while planning my next OLYMPIAN assault I came across his brother. I immediately thought "Doug Senter" and because I haven't thought of or saw the name or the person in about 50 years I had to look in the text to see... yep, Doug Senter!

Really, why do we remember such useless stuff? There are probably many other faces and names tucked away keep embedded in my ooze of membrane in my brain that I will never have a need to use.
Useless stuff, Eddie? Maybe because we finally realize that we are "mortal" beings, and that we need our past memories to explain the meaning of our existence?

What got me thinking about all these little memories is not long ago I submerged myself into emusic, downloading hundred of songs that were popular in the 50s & 60s. I was amazed that more times than not, maybe 99.9% of the time I knew the rest of the song by just hearing the first note.... and I consider myself slow - especially in music - so, I'm sure most people would score even higher and I...and a lot of these songs I haven't heard in 50 years - why did nature put little memory cells for such irreverent facts that can never be used? I can see keeping things you need for survival - but just to have it near your on-line memory to dance or tap your fingers...?
