Atlanta Cyclorama – another view postcard
The burning of Atlanta in 1864.
It says on the back that the Cyclorama measures 50 ft high and 400 ft in circumference, and weighs about 18,000 lbs. The Cyclorama was painted in 1886-6 by a group of German and Polish artists commissioned by Mr. William Wehner. The Cyclorama was brought at auction by Mr. George V. Gress, who presented it to the city in 1898.
I think there was more to it than that. I think years later the CEO of Coca-Cola rescued it.
Also there has been some statuettes additions – for one Rhett Butler is on edge trying to get his horse-pulled carriage out of a ditch.
