Pullet – Flick

JULIA AND JULIE is a movie about French gourmet cooking through the French cooking apprenticeship of Julia Child and studied and analyzed by blogger Julie Powers.

Julia Child is played by Meryl Streep and Julie Powers is played by Amy Adams; two great actresses.

I think just watching the movie I gained a couple of pounds. All the food looked so good!

There were two stories alternating back and forth. One of the story of Julia Childs and her husband, both Americans. Her husband worked at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. Julia decided to learn how to do French cooking and there was an undercurrent message of “there is no French Cook Book in English” which Julia fixes. Also the Senator Joe McCarthy’s Congressional Investigating Committee on the House of UnAmerican Activities was tearing up the state department criticizing things they knew nothing about and Julia’s husband was effected, as the same of many other innocent people.

The flip side was Julie Powers who bought the Childs’ cookbook with 540 some-odd recipes and made a promise to herself and her imaginary blog readers that have not yet materialized to try every recipe within one year. I identified with her as blogger. Anna identified with her spouse.

Both women had pitfalls but both women had supporting husbands and succeeded their goals. And both were well rewarded.

I got sort of confused on the time lines of the two women with some historical facts. It was probably me, so I won’t spout off what I thought were some time warps.

Bon Appetit!
