AVATAR - Let Me Take You Higher

We watched the DVD of AVATAR this weekend. It was some movie. I mean “some” as “powerful” or “some” meaning “plentiful”.

AVATAR is in the future and essentially about the mining of a valuable product unobtanium off the moon Pandora. Apparently Pandora is a moon of Jupiter – in some shots a huge Jupiter-looking planet looms in the background. A powerful Earth-based company is in charge of things.

It was directed by James Cameron and starred Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, and Stephen Lang. It was nominated for many different Academy Awards, nine total.

The Earthens consider the local human-like natives savages, just like the settlers of America felt about the Indians.

Does the names Blackwater and Hallyburton ring a bell? I think those two names will inspire many plots of movies, books, TV stories, and even comic books in the next few years. AVATAR, I think is one of the first that was inspired.

The scenery on Pandora is breathtaking beautiful. The short flights made by these gawky-like reptilian birds that transport beings are fantastic.

Some of the plots in the war scenes have been used over and over to the point they are almost clichés… but will still almost bring a tear to your eye.

It will keep you on the edge of your seat. Even though it will keep you on the edge of your seat, it is very long for short attention span people like me. Be sure and drink some strong coffee before watching.

There are plenty of figures and war toys that looks like they would very nicely be appealing in a smaller form on a action-figure (batteries not included) merchandise shelf - of course.

It is a very good movie. I had about the same adrenalin-high watching Walt Disney's PETER PAN. Now we are thinking about seeing it again, in 3-D this time.
