El Postino on his blog Paranoia Strikes Again said he recently heard that on NPR that something like 75% of the people consider themselves “very” religious and ,well, that means 25% don’t consider themselves “very” religious if religious at all.
It is that something like 75% that I am thinking of. The 75% are made up of all religions, and as long as they are diverse like that, and as critical as they are of each other, I doubt if they we group and demand some unfair laws for religions to co-mingle with the state.
Also what I am wondering about that something like 75% who consider themselves very religious is that this morning on the CBS Sunday Morning News Show it was pointed out that only about 4% of the people tithe. What is wrong with this picture?
Who is going to pay for private airplanes, tailored made suites, mansions and all that if only 4% tithe.
So, preachers, put those sermons about the Divine Plan aside and talk more about that collection plate and how it will give eternal life. Nobody is going to blame you, it is just the holy law of economics!

The church I was attending until mr. kenju had his stroke talked on and on about tithing. Nearly every sermon had something in it about tithing - and it turned me off.

If the church you're attending DOESN'T have sermons on tithing, you might suspect that the minister isn't tithing, either.

That is an interesting thought. Should a preacher tithe? Should he take the money out of his wallet, put it in a collection plate, then pick it up later?
i once went to a church that had all its members sign a yearly "i promise to tithe 10% pledge" SCARY.

no but we had to sign our pledge in blood...not even our own... just kidding!

Just think if you lived back in "the good days" several hundred years ago you would have to belong to the Church, and of course, have to tithe move than 10%.
And if you were lucky enough to live during the Inquisition you could be put on stretch rack or burned if you raised doubt about the Catholic Church.
