Overheard at Wal-Mart

We were shopping in the grocery department yesterday. A tall blond girl walked by me and looked me in the face and smiled. It was not a “come-on” smile, I have better sense than that… it was just a smile from a positive person who was just saying “Howdy! We are on this same planet together!”

On the same aisle on down about 20 feet I think she smiled at another elderly man and I think he thought she was giving him a “come-on big boy” smile.

The elderly gent was about six feet tall, wore a blue blazer with a tie – very neat, and a big league ball cap.

He started talking to her and he talked and talked. I heard her mention her grandfather a couple of times. I think she told him he reminded her of her grandpa. He also told her she was a student at Life College, here in Marietta, and hopefully be a chiropractor some day.

After their conversation he walked on towards us. When he was almost at us he passed two Asian ladies shopping. He asked them were they going to Tech (Georgia Tech). I don’t think their English interpretation was that good, and they sort of nodded, just in agreement with whatever he said.

He asked where they were from and they said China. Then, the old gent let off with some Asian sounding words to them. They knew he was trying to say something Asian and they told him again they were from China – they didn’t understand what he said.

He told them it was South Korea, and in so many words said, “Isn’t it all about the same?”

Then he went by us and said loud enough for them to hear, “Those people sure are smart – and friendly too!”

I think he thought he was complementing them.

They probably were thinking, “Who let him out of the loony bin?”
