Today in History, October the 5th

1864 Battle of Allatoona Pass, 1/3 of Union troops die repulsing the South.

My great grandfather William A. Hunter would have been in this battle with his unit if he was not wounded a few months before at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but William's grandson Herbert Hunter docked his fishing boat at Allatoona Landing, which was about where Allatoona Pass was.
