Cecil & Georgia Petty Grant

Georgia was my mother’s oldest sister. She and Cecil lived in Chattanooga. As you can tell by the picture they both were short.

I don’t know if Georgia had any interests or not she pursued. Many times men had hobbies but women didn’t. Running the household was the women’s past-time and also their full time interest.

I do remember Georgia was very religious. Maybe that was her thing.

Cecil on the other hand pursued some interests. He loved to go to the Southeastern Fair every year in Atlanta and arranged for them to take their vacations at that time of the year. Georgia hung out with her siblings in Marietta while Cecil went alone to the midway.

Cecil also was something of an old movie fan. He built a little house in their back yard and at a 16mm projector in the little house that he would watch. He loved watching old cowboy movies with Tom Mix, Hopalong Cassidy, somebody Steele, Johnny MacBrown and more I’m sure.

Cecil’s life ended on top of that little building. He was on top making roof repairs and hammered the metal nail with his metal hammer and the nail struck a live wire.

They are buried at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton.
