Orphan Boys' Blood Vaccine

Speaking of fear of vaccines:

How would you like to get a vaccine this way?

According to the book THE BATHROOM READER #2  there was a workable vaccine for smallpox in the early 1800s.  But that was before refrigeration was perfected, so much of the vaccine would go bad before it was applied.

Then Spain sent the vaccine around the world, stored in the bodies of 22 orphans.  They had immune blood and was used to make vaccines for others.
