Perry Parham (1940-1953) picture

The above photo was put on Facebook by Joe Jenkins after he enhanced it by touching up the newspapers pixels.

Perry and others were on their bike about dusk time and was hit by a car. He was killed. Joe said something to the effect Perry’s death was a sobering blow to all us boys about the same age. Up to this point, we thought we were invincible; no harm could come to us.

Perry was small in frame but was sort of a super hero. He was a very good Little League baseball player. And as super as he was, he was killed. We found that hard to believe.

His older brother Clayton was good at sports too. I'm sure their enthusiastic father, who was also Perry's coach, could be credited with his sons' sportsmanship.

When I stood over his casket at the funeral home studying his lifeless body it hit me that we were not so invincible after all.

This is a marker at a youth’s baseball field with his facial features on it. The field is named in his memory.

His grave is at Mountain View Cemetery, Marietta.
