When Harvey Kurtzman was starting his cartoonist career freelancing he sold these cartoons to Stan Lee who was a young editor at Marvel Comics. He bought them for fillers. Stan, through the years, has proven he knows talent when he sees it.
I don’t know what legal transaction transpired but I understand that Kurtzman, a few years later, recycled the same cartoons into MAD comicbook when he was editor of it. These cartoons by HK were in MAD #18.
