Making Way For Progress in Downtown Marietta

I took this picture from the parking lot of the Salvation Army, which used to be the playground of Waterman Street Grammar School.  The foreground is mostly a huge vacant lot which used to be The Clay Homes*, low rental project.  On the horizon the big building is the most recent Cobb County Courthouse which has certain characteristics to resemble an earlier courthouse that was demolished in the 1960s.

*Before the Clay Homes Projects were there it was a dirt-streets with shacks that black families lived in.  Their homes were bulldozed away to make way for the Clay Homes, a low-rental project for white only families.  How is that for Gentrification?
