Danny Hardin, R.I.P.

I hated to read this morning that Danny Hardin, an old friend, died last Wednesday, December the 30th.  Danny and I both had fathers as Marietta Police when there were just a handful of cops in Marietta and we both spent the same years in Marietta High School and I always enjoyed talking him.

Danny and his family moved to southwest Cobb, and we did too.  Danny joined the Naval Reserves at NAS ATLANTA and I did too.

The above two facts prove how small Marietta was then.  I did not know he moved to SW Cobb or joined the Naval reserves until we bumped into each other.

This picture is of Danny at the 2009 Varner Reunion.

Obituary for William "Dan" Hardin

William “Dan” Hardin, of Rockmart, GA, formerly of Marietta, GA. passed away on December 30, 2020. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, GA. An interment at Mountain View Park Cemetery will follow the service.
A native of Marietta, he was the youngest of five children and was full of adventure. He loved to tell stories of the Marietta of his youth: growing up on Maple Ave, riding horses, hopping trains, paper routes, hot rodding, and more. Always a tinkerer, he went from building C130s at Lockheed to building houses and finally landing at Coca-Cola where he worked for 25 years. While at Coca-Cola, he was able to travel to China and opened the first bottling plant in Beijing. He also worked on the first Coca-Cola can used in space by astronauts, as well as multiple projects for Mr. Roberto Goizueta. After retirement, he could be found either in his shop or on the tractor and always telling a story. He was a lifelong member of Maple Ave UMC in Marietta, GA and a current member at Rockmart First UMC.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Martha Ann Hardin of Rockmart, GA., his daughter Hayley Kelly (Will) of Marietta, GA.; sister Mary Jo Mills of Marietta, GA.; sister-in-law Jan Faucett of Florence, AL.; grandchildren, Jackson Mahone Kelly of Marietta, GA., Noah Clayton Pope of Canton, GA., and Caleb Hardin Pope of Canton, GA.; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
