I read someplace how Harvey Kurtzman went about creating a
story in MAD. His final product to
present the artist he selected was in
thumbnail form. He would call the artist
in and point out each thumbnail and act it out how he wanted it to be
presented. With just the artist as his audience
he would pantomime the body language he wanted the illustration to convey. To the
reader.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall watching
Kurtzman do his body language thing, such as these which he probably did:
