SUNDAY FUNNIES!! - BIJOU COMIX -GEEK BROS!

BIJOU COMIX was a coalition of Underground comic book artists such as Robert Crumb, Gilbert Shelton, Jay Lynch, Skip Williamson, Denis Kitchen and others. The artists had one thing in common, their admiration for MAD comicbook creator Harvey Kurtzman. Through his comics they found out the enjoyment of working in an uninhibited manner. It was outside the box kind of stuff. The cover is illustrated by Harvey Kurtzman – I cannot find in print that it is done by Harvey Kurtzman, but I’m pretty sure it is – I know his style.

These underground comic book artists say that Kurtzman is the father of underground commix. Which in his typical sophisticated style of humor said he demanded a blood test.

This issue the artists imitate each other. The first story Jay Lynch imitates Gilbert Shelton’s Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. Notice that that the words CHICKEN-FAT and FURSHLUGGINER are used over and over. That is the blood test, yep Kurtzman is the daddy.
