Book Report: I just finished reading REDHEAD BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD by Anne Tyler.
I noticed some book reviewers right off tell you how many pages the book was. Well, I read the Kendall version. It gave percentage progress instead of pages. The book has 100 percents.
Remember THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST? That was also by Anne Tyler.
The book studies a man in his late 30s or early 40s. He did not use his college education. He lives rent free to be the manager/janitor of a not so big apartment house. He is also good at fixing computers. That is where he gets his money, as a computer repairman.
Leads a very well organized life. He runs in the morning at a certain time, does his custodian service at a certain time, and after that take on any project he is toying with or does a computer service call. He gets the apartment units’ garbage sto the streets on garbage pickup day (I identify with that) He lives a very frugal non adventurous life. Or, some may say hum-drum.
I felt a certain comfort zone with his way of life.
He dates until the female gets tired of him or finds fault and well, gives him the Old Heave Ho!
Then a college student enters his life, which turns his organizations skills upside down. The college student is a young man who think he is the son of the computer technician/janitor. His mother used to date him, and they have some of the same qualities.
Also, you get to visit he bunch of sisters for an outdoor party and they are so unorganized than he is I think he is living in virtual horror; he is used to “virtual”.
I thought it was good and comforting
