SUNDAY FUNNIES!! LI'L ORPHAN EDDIE

We saw some of the current take of the musical ANNIE on TV the other night. In case you are the one person that did not know the originality of ANNIE, it is based on the comic strip LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE by Harold Gray. This below is also based on the same comic strip, but it isn’t a musical. It is cartoon art with artist Will Elder mostly doing to drawing and Harvey Kurtzman (creator of MAD Comicbook doing the planning, writing, and layout. It was called ANNIE FANNY. It was done at the suggestion and direction of Hugh Hefner who published the many episodes in PLAYBOY Magazine. Hefner may have had too much of an input. He suggested strongly that Will Elder cut down on the “chicken fat”. The chicken fat is little unrelated funny details in the background of Elder’s art, thatr was what Will was known for.
