I was sadden to read this morning Walter
Gaines, a life log fiend died. We were classmates at Waterman Street School
from the first grade on. His sister Grace and my sister were also
fiends. Walter and Grace grew up across
the street from our school. By the way, next
door from them on Waterman Street my father was born many years before.
Walter and his wife Darlene were
active members of the Campground Methodist Church on Roswell Rd, and owned a
cabin on the Church’s campgrounds., which we visited a few times. Darlene is from Maine, where Walter was
stationed in the Air Force.
Walter retired from Atlantic
Steel.
We met a few times at The Varsity
for lunch to talk about old times. On
our first meeting he presented me with a brick from the destroyed Waterman
Street School.
