Where I grew up, most of the kids kept a cardboard box full of well-read comic books stashed under the bed. Occasionally, we'd meet under "the tree" with our collections of comics and hold a book swap. One of my favorites was Little Lulu. Others were Katy Keen, Archie, Wonder Woman, Roy Rogers (because of Dale Evans), an occasional Plastic Man, Popeye, Donald Duck, etc. I guess you could say those meetings were my introduction to book clubs.
