Who Do I Think I Am? Wow! part 20

Jacob and Polly Hogshead Trammell had ten children.

Some of their children led normal hardworking kind of lives. And some led more interesting lives. I am going to stretch this over several days so not to take up too much space all in one day.

The first:

Mahala Trammell (1820 - ? ) Her nephew (Thomas J. TRAMMELL), in a written statement applying for Indian privileges, said Mahala could talk the Indian language.
March 18, 1847 - Mahala sued Andrew COLVARD for bastardy. Andrew Colvard comes into court and confesses judgement for all costs and files bond with the court.
Mahala married Archibald Bateman November 12, 1846, in Macon County, North Carolina.

They had two sons, (1) Jacob V. Bateman (b1848) and Leander Bateman (b.c1851). Jacob V. was apparently named after her brother Jacob Vanburen “Van” Trammell and Leander’s name meant something in that time period to the Trammells, Leander Bateman was first cousin, once removed to Leander Newton Trammell, born 1830.

Interesting, Mahala had a child that Andrew Colvard fathered early 1847, which was 3 or 4 months after she married Archibald Bateman.

Another eyebrow raiser is that Mahala’s second husband was a man with the last name Lambert. Her brother Van Trammell was accused of killing a Lambert. Same Lambert?
