The Eclipse is upon us.
Cover your eyes!.
It reminds me of the time in the late 1980s we took our sons
to Conyers to a Monastery to see Haley’s Comet.
We reasoned the best time to see Haley’s Comet is far from
lights as possible. And the best time to
see Hale’s Comet would be in the middle of the night. Less lights blaring reflecting.
For some reason I do not remember we thought a Monastery
would be perfect. It was. It was probably Anna that called the Monastery to make sure it
would be OK for a bunch of cars with preteen students to paid them a visit in
the middle of the night.
It sure was and in fact one of the Monk was an expert about
that kind of stuff.
Geat!
I think 4 or 5 cars
drove to the Monastery in Conyers in the middle of the night.
On the property we followed signs to public parking. We entered the parking lot and saw a very
tall man wearing a white Monk’s suit
hand directing the on-coming traffic on where to park.
When we were all out of the vehicles the tall monk gathered
all us round him and he gave a brief narratively lecture on the Gods of the
Heavens. Gods such as Zeus, Ares,
Athena, Medusa, and Hercules Very
interesting. The Monk knew his stuff.
Then he pointed Haley’s Comet. Wow.
Then he suggested we go to the kitchen in the church for hot cocoa. Which some did and some left for the long
drive back to Marietta.
The kitchen was up high.
A door opened up to the a huge room with pews ovelooking Monks
chanting. I think it was about 4 am and
that was when their day began for the Monks.
Sadly one lifeless Monk was slumped over in a wheelchair just being
there.
In the large kitchen we and the Monk guide made small talk
as we sipped our warm cocoa. He knew we
came down from Marietta and asked did any of us go to Saint Joseph’s Catholic
Church. I said we didn’t but my Uncle
and Aunt and their children did. He
asked their names and I told him. He
knew them well. He said he used to be
the Priest of Saint Josephs..
Small World.
We returned to Marietta before daybreak and decided to stop
by a restaurant famous for their breakfasts.
While there, I saw a roach on the wall crawling sideways by me.
