It is
October. And October is Cemetery
season. This is a much photographed and
talked about plot in the Marietta Citizens' Cemetery.
It is all
about the Lady in Black who visited the gravesite every day. She
lived in Atlanta and took a bus or a train to Marietta. Her name was Lucy Gartrell (1863-1954). She was mourning her sister Mary
Annie Gartrell (1853-1954). Lucky is
buried in an unmarked grave in the plot.
Lucky left
no will. I remember hearing that when authorities
went to her home after her death they found money stuffed around all over the
place.
