"Uncle Noah Tyson moved in early life from Pitt County, NC to Early County, Ga, then to Sumpter County, Ala. He moved from there to Sunflower County, Ms. and was drowned in 1852 while getting a crippled deer out of the Yazoo river. Notes for NOAH TYSON:
He was a long pastor of Great Swamp Church, near Greenville. In the year 1792 he preached 189 funerals and 84 in 1793. The land which he willed to just one of his sons, James, contained 250 acres, now the site of the golf course of the Greenville Country Club. Several deed references to a grist mill and a saw mill indicate how he made his living.
Like several of his relatives, he was active in the Pitt County Safety Committee during the time of the American Revolution.
As was then quiet usual, they named their first child after one of the dead children.
The Tyson family graveyard, later used by the Robert Forbes family, still stands near the Greenville Country Club.
