Notes for LOIS HUNTER:
Lois verbally shared quiet a bit of family information me. She was the last member of the William A. and Emaline Ray Hunter's descendents to live in the house in Woodstock that William A. built. I made several trips to visit her to copy pictures and for her to help me fill in the names of the various family members.
Because her father died at an early age Lois and her sister Jacie were raised by their grandfather William A. Hunter. He was the only father they knew. Therefore, when I handed out a printout that I created of a brief history of William A.'s history which pointed out the fact that William was an illegitimate child and also he once killed a man over a horse and he fled North Carolina to Texas and changed his last name to Hunter Lois became very upset. She called me on the telephone and screamed at me telling me that she was going to carry that secret to her grave and I should be ashame of myself for exposing that. Well, that's part of genealogy.
I told myself that she had every right to feel as she did. She was defending the name of the only father she knew - and in her eyes being illegitimate was a sure scandal, and I'm sure she felt that William killed a man, fled, and changed his name to hide from the law didn't help his social standings either.
When I uncovered these facts I asked Lois did she know anything about this and she told me no. I think she thought it was stop with her "no". But it didn't.

Frank Paris Hunter

103. FRANK PARIS6 HUNTER (WILLIAM A.5 TRAMMELL/HUNTER, JASON HENDERSON4 HUNTER, JOHN3, WILLIAM2, SAMUEL1) was born 06 Apr 1879 in Granbury, Hood, Texas, and died 20 Mar 1950 in Marietta, Cobb, Georgia. He married (1) UNKNOWN MCCLURE. She was born Abt. 1880, and died Unknown. He married (2) MINNIE VICTORIA TYSON 21 Dec 1899 in , Cherokee, Georgia, daughter of OBEDIAH TYSON and NANCY HUEY. She was born 16 Sep 1879 in , Cherokee, Georgia, and died 21 Jul 1948 in Marietta, Cobb, Georgia.

Notes for FRANK PARIS HUNTER:
Shortly after Frank was born the family moved to Cherokee County, Georgia. They arrived there in the fall of 1879. in the community of the Kelp Community . He would spend the next twenty years in the area.

About 1902 or 1903 Frank and Minnie moved to Hunt County, Texas. Hunt County is about twenty to thirty miles northeast of Dallas and Hood County, where he was born, is about twenty to thirty miles southwest of Dallas. And Paris, Texas (his namesake), is about twenty miles northwest of Hunt County.

They returned to Cherokee County, Georgia, before 1906.

In 1908, the family was living in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.

By trade, he was a machinist. He worked for Glover Machine Works on Butler Street a long time and Georgia Marble for a long time. He also worked for Continental Can Company in Atlanta, they moved to Alabama, and for a while, he would work in Alabama on weekdays and come back to Marietta on weekends. After that he worked for Georgia Newspapers until it closed down. His last job was with Mitchell's furniture on Butler Street.

Note - Butler Street, the location of Glover Machine Works and Mitchell Furniture was only a few blocks from Manget Street, which was walking distance.

For transportation the family had at one early time a horse and a buggy. Cars Frank owned: Model T Ford, Essex, and "Dork" (?).

In 1911, the family was living on Waterman Street in Marietta, just a few blocks south of the Courthouse.

In 1914, they were living on Clay Street in Marietta.

In 1916, they were living on a farm on a portion of what now (1989) is part of Lockheed Georgia Corporation.

By 1920, they moved to Manget Street. Minnie and Frank would spend the rest of their lives there. Manget Street is the west border of the Larry Bell Park Complex, which now (not then) is where the Cobb County Civic Center is.

He left most of the discipline of the children up to Minnie. He would threaten to whip them, but it was Minnie who usually dealt out the whippings.

On 21 July 1948, Minnie Victoria (TYSON) HUNTER died at the age of sixty-eight.

That same summer we moved into the house on Manget Street to help "Grandpa" HUNTER. I had just turned seven.

Across the street was Larry Bell Park. Tennis Courts were being graded off, and down across the creek a swimming pool was under construction.

For the next twenty months I got to know my Grandfather well. He told me of the old days. Friends, relatives, and places. I was amazed, which fueled him to continue. Unfortunately, through time I have forgotten those valuable recollections. I enjoyed them for the moment, but preserving them to hand down did not enter my mind.

He had an old gray cat named Tom that came and went.

He had one friend that worked at Mitchell Furniture drop by to see him from time to time. He was always on foot. They would have a nip of hard whiskey together, chat a while and he would be on his way.

Grandpa kept his whiskey hidden under the house. He would have a healthy gulp of it everyday, wipe his lips and made a big "sigh" sound with his breath.

The first Christmas I spent there Santa Claus brought my sister Frances and me bikes. Her's was blue and mine was red. Grandpa Hunter and my father were my training wheels. They would take turns holding the bike up for a few runs. I remember the first time that I finally went solo Grandpa got the idea of pushing as a start only down the hill on Manget from East Dixie Avenue to the front of the house. He did, I learned the skill of balance on a bike while coasting with Grandpa Hunter behind me.

He showed the art of whittling wood and making flips, or sling- shots from forks. He said dogwood trees made the best fork frames for flips.

I think it was the Spring or Summer of 1947 that a truck pulled up in front of the house and a middle age woman got out and looked around. Grandpa had a metal chair that he enjoyed sitting in under the shade at the south side of the house. He stood up and walked over and asked the woman if he could help her. They talked for along time. She left. He turned towards the house to walk back - he was shaken - and crying. He had just met his oldest child. The McClure's girl child.

That was the only time they met.

The house had a fireplace in the living room. Grandpa would get up before anyone else and start the fireplace. Usually, I would be the second one up. One morning while standing by the fire- place warming up to it a spark popped out and ignited my paja-mas. In seconds the bottom part of my clothes were in flames. Grandpa immediately threw me down and beat the flames out. I had to go to the hospital for serious leg burns. He saved my life.

Seventeen days before his seventy-first birthday he died in the old Hospital in Marietta on Cherokee Street.
