Regional Flatulence Regulations

I wonder what Emily Post said about flatulence?   You know, farting?   Before you go on-line and send me a link, that  was  just a rhetorical question.
What I am getting at is regional manners.:

In the North when one lets air loudly, a polite person will say, "excuse me."
In the South, when I was growing up, it was common knowledge if one lets a loud fart out, he would instantly say "Jaybird!" or "Safety!"

If you failed or forgot to say one of those two words, that would give your friend a legal right to punch you on your arm as hard as he/she can.  That's the law of the land.
