CAMP REDEMPTION, a book review.

I just finished  reading the 3rd novel by Raymond L. Atkins CAMP REDEMPTION*.  It is about a large area of land in northwest Georgia owned by one family, which consists of two single  middle age siblings - sort of, male and female.  The characters in all three books I read made their home in the Sand Mountain/Fort Payne, Chattanooga, and Rome area.

The basic plot is that the sister has a strong sense that  she is on a divine mission.  She opens up their land every year as a camp for young people to teach about religion, show them the right path, and keep them out of trouble.

The brother is not as ambitious as her sister but helps her out with leadership and manual chores.

The book is written in such a way every page brings out a chuckle or laugh.
The book takes a serious look at religion, immigrants, romance, cheaters, and a lot of other profound subjects.

And, in case you are wondering, I got teary eyed on the last page.

I think it is a good book, easy reading and funny.

In all three novels that I read Atkins has the protagonist  as Georgian good old boy with a sarcastic wit.  I wondered if Atkins looking through same eyes as his heroes, so I Googled him and checked out his Wikipedia  page.   He is not 100% Georgia corn-fed Good Old Boy.  He was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and was a military brat, and live most of his teen developing  years in Alabama.
At the time his Wikipedia was written he was an English Instructor  at technical college in or near Rome, Georgia.  He went to Floyd Junior College, Shorter College, Kennesaw University, and he credits professor Kent Anderson as being an inspiration for him being a writer.
Hey!  I went to Kennesaw University and went through high school with a Kent Anderson in Marietta, Georgia,  Kent went on to be a professor.  Small world!

*the other two books I read by Raymond L. Atkins:  FRONT PORCH PROPHET and SORROW WOOD
