Notes for BEN KASH RIDLEY:
Due to the economical condition during the late 1920's and early 1930's, the hardships of farming and poor health of his father, Ben had to leave school and find work. He went to Trion, Ga., where his sister Lillie and her husband Marvin Jones were living. Ben got a job with Trion Cotton Mills and boarded with Marvin's mother, Mrs. Fallas.
While attending a social in the 'Frogtown' community of Trion, Ben met Iola Parris, who held the title of "Miss Trion" at the time.
He and Iola raised their family in Trion. When their family got larger they built a larger house and Iola's aunt Allie (Carver) CHANDLER came to live with them and kept the children while Iola and Ben worked.
On April 10, 1942, Ben was inducted into the United States Army at Fort McPherson, Georiga. He was in Company "G", 306th Infantry, Seventy-seventh Division, under the command of Captain Buckner M. CREEL, III.
At the time of his death, Ben was a first scout in the third platoon of Company "G" of 306 Infantry. During the night on the Island of Ie Shima, Ryukyus in the Pacidic Ben was wounded by enemy mortal shell while in the battle with the Japanese (well known war correspondent Ernie Pyle, died in the same battle). His body was exhumed on March 15 1949 and sent back to the U.S and buried in the National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.

In 1944, Iola bought a new house on Arlington Circle, Grove Park Community, in Atlanta, Georgia. She rented out her house on the farm.
